Primary monitor randomly going black when secondary monitor is connected

I've been having this problem ever since I got my second display - a 55" TV that I use for action games, movies etc. Several times a day the primary monitor will randomly go black for a few seconds and reset the desktop, as if the display has suddenly been disconnected and reconnected again. This only happens when the second display is plugged in.

 

I've tried three different HDMI cables, two of them are certified, and none have made a difference.

 

I have no idea why this is happening and it's extremely annoying.  Could this be a Windows issue?

are they both plugged Ito the same socket? if they are try having them in different sockets.
