Random Idea for my PSU

Hi All, 

 

I need some advice here. I have a ryzen 9 7840hs Mini PC and I have bought a GPU dock (waiting on arrival) its USB4 not oculink. I'm going to attach my 4060ti to it and then to my MiniPC. My question is as this will need an ATX Power Supply to run. It seems stupid to me to then have to still give me Mini PC power from its laptop style brink (its and standard DC barrel style one) I will get the specs later and update this. What I'm trying to find out is if I have this PSU is there an easy way to take one of the many free connectors, (CPU, PCIE, Sata) to power the mini PC.

 

Thoughts on a postcard or should I just deal with having having to plug in two power supplies

Just use 2 whilst technically possible you'd need to do voltage conversions most likely as it's most likely 19v not the 12v a pc psu outputs.

 

Either way don't bother. Also do expect lost performance as a pcie 3.0x4 link is maxed by a 4060ti with relative ease. Hope the dock wasn't too pricey as well often you can just buy a desktop pc (with no gpu) for the price of a usb 4 dock

This idea is not recommended in the first place. Probably just leave it alone because the usb dock will not even give the 4060ti full performance. Instead just buy a desktop then attach the 4060ti

Nar it was like £70 its for my TV downstairs, using Bazzite for SteamOS and have a spare 4060ti I was using in a server but have decommissioned that one. The mini PC I have a something I can pick up and take with me when I have to work away from home. It has USB4 and this dock is USB4 so 40gbps. I know there will be some bottlenecking but I don't think much surely on on 4060ti

My main rig is has my trusty 3090 in it. This is just for the TV downstairs and for when I work away. My thought was I have the Spare 4060ti why not give the Mini PC a bit more juice when its at home

I guess if it’s a spare and just a side project, go for it. Sorry lol. Thought this was going to be your main desktop

No worries I should of been more detailed its literally ooh I have these parts Ooh does this work ooh lets try it. Its hard to work out how much Performance I will actually lose on the 4060ti. So people say hardly any if the TV is plugged into the GPU and isn't daisy chained. I don't understand what they mean by daisy chained though. As if if was using a GPU Dock I'm obs plugging my TV into my GPU surely. Once it arrives I'll comment back on this and let you all know

It really depends but a 3.0x4 link aint much evne if it's just one way. Either way since it's leftover parts yeah go for it. But yeah just keep the 2 seperate.

So I said I would feedback on this. So performance depends on the game. F1 2024 I'm only getting 30fps and the 4060ti isn't doing anything what ever res I put it. Card is running in gen 3 x8 FYI. Cyberpunk though 4k all high settings no rt no frame gen dlss ultra performance 55 to 65 with an average of 60. I'm so confused
