Can you please comment on if there has been an intentional increase in Youtube ads during WAN show (not live)? Thank you There have been posts a-plenty this week and I noticed it last week (not a competition).

Alternatively, I'm wondering if Google is forcing more ads on TV because I use UBlock origin on all other devices. Thank you

Claims to be "transparent" with no actual numbers. LMAO. Weird how the largest companies in the world have financial reports every quarter, but LTT is somehow too important to disclose financial data. Hmmmmmmmmm.

It's obvious isn't it? Their chart in the thumbnail is a circle so obviously it's 3.1415$ (cad)

Is that per view from an unladen swallow or per parsec traveled?

they are EXCEPTIONALLY transparent for a privately owned business.

"the largest companies in the world" are publicly traded, and they are legally required to provide financial reports to shareholders. go ahead and find me a detailed financial statement from valve.

it's people like you why the bit at the end about "why are there no dollar amounts" is in the video.

also, if they provided dollar amounts, you would be in here just the same wondering where all that money goes... and they'd have to basicly make an expenses report as well..

just so you're aware... it's a very safe estimate to say that they got at least 5 million in payroll annually, just in dollars going out to pay for staff. that's without taxes, employee laptops, or even lunch room snacks.

it's very rude to put it this way, but the reason there's no dollar amounts there, is because the numbers are beyond the reasonable comprehension of people like you, and people like you will personally attack staff over entirely fictional extrapolations of what that dollar value implies.

Hey, can you provide any reputable source at all for your claim that Youtube pushes extra ads to non-adblocked devices? Thanks..

i never said "non adblocked devices", i said TV's. youtube's been experimenting with making the youtube experience on TV's more "linear TV like" for years. it's a platform with a very high tolerance for ads, and a very high barrier to entry for adblocking.

besides.. ever like.. ran a browser without adblock for a day, and compared to watching on your TV over lunch? all you need is a sample size of one day to just know it's ridiculous on TV compared to browser.

I can tell you from an anecdotal standpoint, that I get way more ads when I watch stuff on my TV vs my phone. at least it very much feels that way, I'm almost at the point of getting premium cause I started using my TV a lot & AdGuard/PiHole doesn't do much against YouTube video ads these days.

here is an article back in 2023 from techrader about increasing ad times on smart tvs.

sort of?

If I click on a youtube video and let it run in Discord, it will frequently have a fuckton of ad spots.

But if I swap over to YT directly?  More than half will vanish instantly.  The weird TV OSs may be part of that.

Some video feedback: I dislike the way the sponsorships are laid out on LTT videos like this one, particularly how every couple of minutes a "tidbit" about the sponsor is shoehorned in. Having a sponsor at the beginning and end is perfectly fine, and even a little nod mid way through is fine, but it gets obnoxious once you hear a sponsor read for the 9th time in a single video.

Video itself is actually really good (more content from luke pls) but the layout of the sponsor reads is annoying as a watcher

Keep in mind that I am sometimes wrong, so please correct me if you believe this is the case!
