Hi guys,

Im on AM4 and want to pretty much max the platform out and upgrade from my 3070 to something better.

I’ve seen the Ryzen 7 5700X3D and the RTX 4070 Super online, both at good prices.

knowing I can still get ok money for my own parts, is this the best I could do before switching to AM5 or is bottlenecking going to be an issue for me ?

There is no single answer to this question, since it'll depend on the games you play, the settings you play at, and even which part of the game you're at.

If a game is very CPU intensive and/or you're playing at a high refresh rate, you might need a faster CPU. If not, it'll likely be perfectly fine.

However there’s not major “don’t do that” associated with it ? Tbh that’s all I’m I’m after

Sometimes.

Thats just the nature of dynamic workloads.

The pairing is fine, when the time comes you are unsatisfied with your performance, then you can see what is the limit in your chosen workload.

So no major “don’t do that “ associated with pairing the 2 together ?

No, there isn't. The 5700X3D is still a very capable CPU, even if it's no longer the fastest there is.

If you're playing very CPU intensive games at 144 Hz+, I could get behind "yeah, you might want something better". It really depends on what you're doing, which is why a general recommendation either way is difficult.

5700X3D with 4070 Super

7800X3D with 4070 Super

Different scenes so not exactly apples to apples, but they are uploaded by the same person and at the same time. You can see if a 'better' CPU is going to cause a noticeable difference.

At 1440p the 4070 Super still reaches full utilisation with the 5700X3D, so I would not be concerned
