Ipad takes multiple presses of the power button to wake up.

My sister has an ipad generation 6 running ipad os 17 According to her, for the past month, she has to press the power button 3-4 times before the ipad wakes up. The same thing happens using the home button. What causes this? Can it be fixed?

 

I also have this same issue with my ipad gen5 which has been occuring for about a year now

is it definitely 3-4 presses is it like a latency thing. what happens if you click it once and give it time to work. if so software update?
