I have never used a controller in my life before, how to git gud?

yes yea, i have never owned a gaming console I grew up plating games on a potato pc, my parents wouldnt have bought me a controller just for me to play games with as a kid, but now im an adult with adult money so I bought this with money I won from a hackathon

I bought the black version and this looks so fucking cool with the lens effect on the xy ab buttons with lights and feels good to hold,

now the first game I decided to test with this right after it shipped to me was burnour paradise remastered, one of the reasons for buying this controller was racing games, mordern racing games are so terrible with keyboard,

I wanted to try something I was already familar with in keyboard and I had a lot of fun playing burnout paradise with a keyboard on my old PC, so I picked up the remastered on the spring sale, and immediately tested my controller out with that, and it was a bad idea

what i saw coming but didnt saw coming were the vibrations, the haptic feedback is quite brutal, and burnout paradise has these amazing crash scenes and so many fun ways you can inflict pain on the car you're driving, now in burnout paradise the cars are actually empty being driven by ghosts so there's no one inside to feel the pain of the crashes, little did I know that the pain of the crashes are transferred via the haptic feedback, and man it was brutal, firstly I was sucking so hard i had to look down constantly to see that I'm pressing the right button and thats caused me to get hit by opponents or hitting a random car and the fucking vibrations made sure I felt them, it was like a fucking mini earth quake the fucking controller was manipulating the gravitation field around my hands became nervous, later I tried marvel rivals which was another bad idea cuz had to look down on the controller and had so much trouble controlling the camera my friend who was spectating said "daredevil ahh gameplay" so just to shut his yap I switched to the trackpad of my laptop and got mvp on that match, then I tried sonic adventure 2 and it being an older game the camera also sucked ass and it was pain to get hang of the controllers and go fast, then I tried GTA 4, and finally it was a game that I was enjoying playing for a while until it crashed.

So ughhh, I suck, how to git gud, reccomend some games which I can practice on and like how do I control the urge to hold the mouse and keyboard midgame when I'm struggling with the controller?

Quite litterally just git gud is the answer

Play the games you like, maybe some rogue likes and fighting games

There isnt a "play this game to learn"  there is only  " I CAN ONLY PLAY TILL I CAN USE IT"

If you disagree with anything I've said tell my why with logic not feeling

If you wanna correct smb do so with logic not anecdotes and feelings

Honestly, just play games you enjoy with the controller.  it'll come.  In the exact same way playing random games to practice will.

Why buy a car to practice driving when you can practice driving the car you enjoy?  It's not like a sport where you can go to the batting cage or shoot free throws for days to practice one aspect.

Kind of an odd question, since as an adult you know the way to get good is just to practice doing the thing.

Just enjoy.

Personally controllers are really only for nonshooting/aiming games. Driving, running (like side scrollers), etc. Just use mouse and keyboard for more accurate headshots in shooting games. When it comes to a game like GTA, I use a controller for vehicles and quickly switch to mouse and keyboard for combat. You get pretty quick at switching eventually.

My two centz.

Practice practice practice.  Finding the right button during a quick press mini game becomes second

nature.  Good games for the controller, anything without range combat.  Fallen Order, Survivor,

any AC title (some ranged is fine, i kept reaching for the mouse in AC when needed).

Yakuza is also good.

I mean sounds like you just have to get used to it... Racing games are actually perfect for controller as the controls are usually rather simple/straight forward... I'd recommend to put acceleration and brakes on the R2 and L2 buttons if possible btw.

I have the opposite problem can't use keyboard to safe my life, too many buttons and wasd are offset...I feel like you'd need at least 4 hands to make use of the control schemes... So wasd + shift + F + space , yeah and maybe tab too , all while controlling the camera with the other hand (mouse)...

Sure sure, a really well thought out and comfortable system... 🤨

It's actually just practice. There is no magic method that makes you learn it faster.

I had one friend who never played on a controller. One evening of FF7 couch coop and he quickly got the hang of it. It's not that hard. I'd say the hardest part is learning to play shooters on a controller, but I'd generally recommend to stay with KB+M for these games.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
