Hey guys , hope you all have a good day so far 馃檪

i'm thinking with myself (cause im planning my new rig)

how many cores do i need , 8 OR 12 ?聽

for gaming 8 cores will be enough , but for streaming and video editing , and basically multi task around , like heavy browsing , watching and also light work with VM.聽

but according to streaming and video editing is better to use the GPU and not the CPU , correct ?

also i have seen that i need good clock speed and good amount of IPC...聽

as you see , i would like to hear your thoughts.聽

It all depends on your budget 馃檪

A modern AM5 7700x / 9700X would easily do what you want with 8 cores and 16 threads. the IPC gain is fantastic over older CPU's.

Depends on your budget. If you can, grab the 9950x3D, it's the best consumer chip on the market right now. But if you can't afford it... well, how much CAN you spend? That's what's going to dictate your purchase.

Depends on what you mean by "better". CPU encoding has potential for higher image quality, whereas GPU encoding will get (almost) there without taxing the hardware as much.

In other words, if budget aint a problem and you can splurge on overkill hardware, or you're not making much use of your machine (say, streaming a lighter game), you go for CPU encoding. Otherwise, it might be wiser to go for GPU.

My budget can fit 8 or 12 cpu core聽

like the 9900x or the 7900x and 8 cores cpu like the 7700x or 9800x3d for example聽

With that kind of budget:

If gaming is your priority, I'd just get the 9800X3D.

If gaming is not your priority, then the 9900X.

Depends what kind of multitasking, what you described above I'd still consider fine for 8 cores.

There's a performance penalty from losing the 3D cache (depending on the game) and switching to a 6x6 core config from 8x0, so I'd want to be sure that those extra cores are going to be worth it.

I had a 7950X and noticed micro-stuttering in games. I looked into it and learned it likely had to do with the dual dies with 6 cores each. I didn't know that was a thing when I bought it, I was used to Intel which I had been buying since the early 2000s. The dies are separate and each has its own L3 cache. So I would stick to the 8 core X3D series
