"Fan Control" not detecting fans on the msi x870e godlike's ez control hub

As the title describes I'm trying to get Fan Control to work with all of the fans connected to my mobo. This particular mobo has a special fan hub that has all of the system fan ports that would otherwise be on the board in the fan hub, which is specially connected so that those fan headers are treated as if they were truly motherboard fan headers. All of the fan headers on the hub are individually controllable and show up in the bios and hwinfo64 the way you'd expect normal fan headers to appear, the issue is that Fan Control can't recognize them - it can recognize the cpu fan header that actually is on the motherboard, but not any of the system fan headers that are in the hub. Has anyone figured out how to get Fan Control working for this board's special fan hub?

Is the board still this one? You didnt specify on post and most people misses signature posts.

Thought so. Specify the board and your fan configuration.

My current build is in my signature now. The granular details of my fan configuration aren't particularly important beyond the fact that all my fans and non MSI controllers are 4-pin pwm and all give rpm readings (my fans are all either 120mm or 140mm noctua ippc 3000rpm fans). The issue is that the MSI EZ Control Hub is invisible to detection by Fan Control when the fans on the hub headers are fully visible and controllable in bios and are all monitored correctly by hwinfo64. I have a feeling that i'm looking for some kind of compatibility plugin like the one for corsair fan controllers that already exists, but there is absolutely no information available on this issue.

Edit: I found a workaround by using the cpu fan header (the only one Fan Control can use) to control the gpu rad fan array based on gpu temps. This is necessary as my gpu rad is modded with noctua 3000 rpm fans that are not compatible with the gpu's native fan header. All of the other fans can be controlled by cpu temps at the bios level. Really wish I didn't have to do this, but this workaround seems to be the only solution right now.

  • 2 weeks later...

Have this exact same motherboard setup (fans connected to EZ Connect Hub), but Fan Control will not detect them.

I'm really at a loss for what is happening here; the EZ Connect Hub is not even showing as detected in the BIOS, yet every fan connected to it has power and spins, and I can even control RGB via Lian Li L-Connect 3.

Thanks for the tip about using the CPUFAN1 header, I'll give that a try.

If you need another workaround and are ok with some extra cost, you can use a corsair commander pro fan controller to link your fans to a usb header and make them individually controllable through Fan Control's corsair link plugin. I ended up doing that so i could set the main front intake fans to be 5% higher than either the current GPU or CPU fan setting to help keep positive pressure in my case. The nice part about the commander pro is that it has a 1 to 2 usb splitter that can enable you to have more usb devices in your build or even daisy chain another usb controller off of it. Its frustrating that msi ended up "solving" a bunch of problems no one really has with their proprietary modifications to the standard motherboard format.
