Need new RAM for 11900K

I didn't think about RMAing them. It has been so long. Will look into that. I doubt they still have b-die laying around for me, but free RAM is good. I never ran over XMP 1.35v through them. I don't have the patience for RAM OCing.

Do an RMA then. B die I don't think has left production yet so you should have no issues getting a replacement for it, though it very much has ramped down.

My old 14-14-14-34 Samsung bdie ram (GSkill F4-3200C14D-32GVK) started throwing errors in test 8 and 9 in memtest86(+). The DDR4 market looks like its drying up. What is my best option?

I found this Corsair Vengeance, it appears to be Micron (I prefer Samsung and Micron), but it's only 32GB. Which would be fine.

Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3600 PC4-28800 CL16 Dual Channel Desktop Memory Kit CMN32GX4M2Z3600C16 - Black - Micro Center

My board maxes out at 64GB and that's only $100 at this point to do.

I've seen good comments on this Crucial Pro kit, seems they all hit CAS 16 with decent timings at 1.35v (https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/comments/179ewh8/crucial_pro_64gb_2x32gb_ddr4_micron_rev_f/) .

Crucial Pro 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR4-3200 PC4-25600 CL22 Dual Channel Desktop Memory Kit CP2K32G4DFRA32A - Black - Micro Center

The other stuff I've come across is SK Hynix which would be ok, but not sure how I feel about that. This is on a Z590-i board and I game on a 1440P 240Hz panel.

Anything else out there that I'm missing?

Did you also overclock this and touched the VCC voltage?

And is the error still happening while XMP is off?

Assuming you didn't slam these with 1.7V constantly, contact G.Skill and get them RMA'd. They have a lifetime warranty.

If that's not an option somehow and you have to buy a new kit of DDR4, either buy the cheapest 2x16GB kit out there, or if you really want something high end, get a used kit instead (you'd be surprised what kind of kits you can find used for cheap if you know how to look). Spending more than ~$50 on a kit of DDR4 doesn't make sense considering there really isn't that much of a performance difference between a 3200 CL16 kit and a 3200 CL14 kit (not enough to justify over double the cost at least) and when DDR4 is being mostly phased out. That extra money is better put towards a future system upgrade than it is being put towards a high end kit of RAM.

Running test 8 + 9 tonight all night with XMP off (1.2V, CL18, but I did adjust it from 2133 to 3200Mhz). I've been running XMP II all these years, and tested last night with XMP I, it also threw errors on test 8.

Well, auto settings (CAS 17-18-18-36 1.2V) seemed to work. And this is the only setting that works, I've tried multiple attempts at 1.35V settings. I let the tests 8 & 9 that it failed in before run all night. Should I still replace this RAM?

The closest non-EOL kit on GSkill's site is CL16-16-16-36, and no guarantee I get that kit. Most of the others are worse, SK Hynix with as slow or slower timings than mine in Asus auto mode.

I'm leaning towards yes, as new RAM will likely extend the life of this system for a long time.

  • 4 weeks later...

Ok got my RMA back, much to my surprise they sent me back the same exact kit (https://www.gskill.com/product/165/184/1536055632/F4-3200C14D-32GVK-EOL). It says EOL so I'm surprised. You can't find it new any longer anywhere either. My kit says it was produced April 2025 as well.

Either way, glad to have my Samsung b-die CL14 again. I'm curious since I've been running this Corsair (Micron) kit at 3600Mhz on XMP at Gear 1, if I can run my new b-die at XMP timings and Gear 1 3600. That would be really nice to have CL14 3600.
