Hey,

So i have decided to upgrade my network and have ordered a ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Fiber, i have fiber in and have a sfp module in my isp provided router.

Forums in my country say that i have to move the fiber module in to the new box, but what i am having problem with understanding is that they say that you have to make Vlan 102 with dhcp as a wan interface.

I have not gotten the equipment yet, but i am curios is it possible to make a vlan with the id 102 on the wan interface and have dhcp on it as i dont have a static ip, and they are never going to make a guide on how to remove their router compleatly. As i dont want it standing there and just be used as a mediaconverter.

Sorry maybe noobish network question.

Hi,

short questions about your current setup

  • What kind of model is your ISP provided router? Is it a default SFP Module (some ISP Hardware uses proprietary hardware that cannot be used somewhere else)
  • Are you sure about DHCP? There are multiple ways about this and it could also be possible you need to setup PPPoE (this would be the case if you got a username/password from your ISP). Maybe if you post your ISPs name it may help here if you do not know.

I do not have a UniFi Gateway setup but I do have some gear and basically you create a VLAN under settings > network > create a virtual network. At a devices ports you can edit the Ports and assign vlans to them. But I guess somebody here can provide screenshots and more details...

it is a sfp module, its a zyxel vmg8825. It aquires external ip by the mac adress by the sfp module is what i have understood. And from the external network from my understanding is that i have to take the external vlan 102 and pass it through to my internal network from my understanding. Its called altibox and is in norway

Edit: i do not have a login to the router only acces to the router via the isp own webpage, where they have a vlan for management at vlan 101 and tv on vlan 103 which i do not use, all 3 vlans have their own ip adress by what a norwegian guy posted back in 2015
