Videos only play when muted

This happens with all different players on all different sites, muting either the tab itself or the player both count for it to then play. Has only started happening over the last week. Brand new Windows 11 build, problem persists across both Firefox and Chrome. I came across one solution being to disable my NVIDIA High Definition Audio driver, which worked at the time at least but didn't test for long because then I lose my ability to use my monitor's speakers. Restarting computer seems to work for a bit but the problem comes back easily a day later.

 

Is there anything long-term that can be done here? Is this a known bug with something?

If you haven't already: check for driver updates. If you're on the latest, might also be worth considering reverting the previous NVIDIA audio drivers release.

That's a new one to me. Assuming all drivers are up to date and given that it's a new install anyway, I'd reinstall win11
