StarSector - Open-World Single-Player Space Sim where you build a fleet and you can Combat, Explore, Colonize, Trade, or even Pirate your way to becoming a legendary Captain and a dominant force in the sector. You can control a ship yourself in combat while commanding your other forces, or you can choose to play the game as an RTS completely and allow autopilot to command even your own ship. You can play this game however you like - literally.

It is a game that has been in development for 12 years now, by a small team of just 4 developers. I have no idea why they still call the game "Early Access" - its obviously a complete game without question 🤷‍♂️.

The game even has an extensive modding community with tons of possibilities. This game is clearly beloved by a loyal fan base and it certainly shows and I cannot blame them at all. I couldn't believe what I had been missing out on all these years. In my opinion, StarSector is a game so revolutionary that you cannot call yourself a true Space Sim or Space RPG enthusiast until you play it.

I recently discovered StarSector and began playing it a few months ago. This game is simply incredible, an experience like none other, and certainly one of the greatest space games ever created. I highly urge anyone into space games to try this one out. The best part is this game can run on just about any PC or hand-held PC system. Its top-down 2D Graphics are simplistic and not demanding whatsoever. Its system requirements are literally this LOL:

They even support my 3440x1440p UltraWide Resolution!!!

Im usually not into top-down simplistic games, but StarSector is anything but simplistic and for basic top-down graphics, the art and style is actually genuinely incredible. The combat is genuinely difficult and complicated - I get my ass kicked quite often if I am not careful. The systems and weapons are complex and there are literally endless customizations and possibilities when it comes to your fleet. Progression and factions are also quite complex. Colonizing a planet is incredibly complex, even basic everyday tasks like maintaining your fleet and fuel have complexity to them. There really isn't anything like this game out there.

Weirdly enough - StarSector is NOT available on Steam, which is why it is not well-known (Seriously Devs - this game NEEDS to be on Steam, its so deserving of more recognition!). Instead, the game is sold independently with its own launcher through the developer's old-school website. Its very old-school, you actually purchase an activation code like when you bought PC games in boxes at GameStop and then had to activate them.

Here is the website, followed by a bunch of videos so you can see what the game is like:
