Sata to Molex for UV LEDs?

Go to solution Solved by emosun,

adapters should be fine. led strips don't really pull enough watts for the adapter to be an issue.

the risk comes from the adapters just being made like crap and shorting

Hello,

I wanted to put some UV LEDs in my computer with some cablemod UV reactive cables and some UV reactive tape for some color accents.

I’m struggling to find options for this, but I did find these UV LED strips that power from a molex connector. The cables I have with my power supply only have Sata power cables, but there are sata to molex adapters out there.

I know there are risks with adapting molex and sata, but I only know about that with the context of hard drive or 2.5” SSDs. Would this work/be safe since it is only LEDs? Or does anyone know of a better alternative that I haven’t been able to find?

Thanks in advance.

sata can handle less power then molex for 12v and 5v but for the amount probly putting in the pc it will be fine.

uv can destroy serten things too just so you no.

so, since they're only 12v devices, using SATA to Molex won't hurt.  (LEDs don't draw enough power to worry about in this regard.)

so yes, have fun!

you also have the option of doing it the cool guy way and using Cold Cathode lights:
