MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard 2x8pin Powering

Do I need to power both 8pin ports or am I fine with just one being powered? I have a ryzen 7 9800x3d. I am also getting the be quiet straight power 12 850w which only has one 8pin from what I can see.

You do not. The 9800x3d sips power compared to most other high end chips. 

@Hinjima I believe is running an OC with only one 8 pin connector

You can just use one 8pin.  The single 8pin EPS CPU power connector can deliver well over 200w of continous power.

A single 8pin is enough to power two 9800X3D's  

I run a overclocked 9800X3D on 1 cable and its plenty fine.

Another question is how would I get to use my current GPU RTX2070 which also has an 8pin port when the only 8pin is going to the motherboard. This is only temporary while I am looking for a 5070 Ti.

You need a different cable to the GPU. 

do NOT mix the CPU power cable and the GPU PCIE cables, they look similar but they are completely different in terms of power.

 

These are the cables your Be Quiet comes with.

RED IS CPU POWER

GREEN IS GRAPHICS CARD POWER

The 12VHPWR is for modern GPU like 5070 Ti.

So I will use the PCle 6+2 for the 2070 and the PCle 5.0 for the 5070 Ti yes?

That is correct  

The 5070 Ti will also come with an adapter so you can use it with PCIE 6+2 cables for older PSU's.

But use the PCIE 5.0 for the 5070 Ti.

 

Adapter that comes with different GPU's for older power supplies that do not have the PCIE 5.0 cable.
