I don't even know if anyone 'really' plays WoW in 4K or whether it's even a good/financially sound idea to even do it.

It's probably irrational but I don't want to buy an RTX card if I don't have to, as their focus on RT & AI is of negligible interest to me.

"What else" am I going to do with the machine I end up with...?
Watch YT... web browsing... that's pretty much it, but the reasoning for posting this here is very much the gaming aspect - playing WoW in 4K.

I wish I could get enthusiastic about other game titles to justify what may be spending way too much on a PC that has such extremes of use cases, but I can't.

Current machine is in my profile... single-CCD X3D CPU will also part of the upgrade.

Mod's - I know I crossed topic boundaries, but I can be too OCD about gathering information & accept reprimand as an occupational hazard OF information gathering.

Thanks in advance, anyone...

Can I realistically call myself a gamer, if I only play ONE, twenty year old game...?

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

it is not

All jokes aside, is WoW even that demanding to run at 4k60? how well does it run on your current hardware? What's getting utilized the most?

I don't play WoW but I play everything else at 4K because I want to. If I played WoW, I would also play it at 4K. If you have a high end 4K capable PC, why not?

17 years later & I'm still playing it... and nothing else.
Surprisingly, yes... a lot has been changed; I'm using a 5800X & an RX6800 to get 1440p @ decent framerates.
I wanted to upgrade from 1080p, a few years ago, & got a 4K monitor by mistake & my 1950 $h@t itself... that got replaced with a Vega56 and that still panicked;  that got me scraping pennies together to get a 1440p monitor... so, yeah; an expensive mistake I don't wanna make again in a hurry.

My biggest problem is that what most play at 4K I have little to no interest in playing... I can't even be bothered to play 3 AC games I bought a few years ago, even in 1440p.

I do. At 4K ultra maxed out. Got 7900XTX though. It's basically fine, with dynamic flying if there are many players around fps can dip. The hardest test is 40v40 PvP clash in BG oh wow how fps managed to tank for a while to lows of 20ish fps on 7800X3D so yeah, old engine.

So yeah definitely pushing it.

In this case just get whatever GPU is the cheapest and still get 4K 60FPS in WoW. Afaik this game doesn't support any of the RTX software features, so you can also go for AMD or Intel.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

There is basic RT support, at best, but I'm not bothered by it.
More than likely going to upgrade to a 9800X3D & some variant of RX7900...
