Hi I’m quite new to computer building and I am having this problem with my system. I need your opinion to solve this.

system spec:

9800X3D

ASUS rog strix RTX 3090

MSI X670E Tomahawk

G.Skill DDR5 64GB(2X32) 6400MHz XMP 3.0 profile (2nd, 4th slot)

Superflower 1000W Gold

I built my system back in January 2025 a while after the 9800x3D(I bought it on the launch day and had to wait for other parts) launch. I updated Mobo to newest BIOS & installed windows 11 pro, no problem posting until today. + CPU stress test was done with no problem after the build and CPU temp never went up above 90C (normally sits around 30-50% load at about 70C)

1. The monitor went black 12:00 7th Mar 25 while playing game, when I checked LED light there was yellow light on DRAM and PC was not responding at all for more than 5 minutes.

2. Then, I tried to power off the PC by pressing case power button but it wouldn’t respond. So, I turned it off by switching off the PSU and turned it back on.

3. Case power button works when turning it on however the PC wouldn’t post and there’s red LED on CPU and yellow LED on DRAM now.

4. I went to MSI website to download newest BIOS and tried to flash using a thumbdrive.

5. BIOS flash process begins as it should however when blinking light stops after like 5 minutes, the PC won’t turn it self off. I also tried to boot using only 1 RAM stick and tried different slot but no luck

+ press and holding the case power button won’t power off PC still.

What should I do to fix it?

the dram light is a ram problem, try booting with only one stick and test in all the slots.

I already tried. Update on the situation, I left the PC powered on overnight, PC went sleep mode, red CPU LED disappeared(yellow DRAM was present still) but the case power button wouldn’t turn the PC off still and when I restarted using PSU switch, CPU red LED is back on along with DRAM yellow light.

  • 4 weeks later...

Not the same mobo, I have an ASUS TUF X870-PLUS, but same issue with 9800X3D sin yesterday. During playing a COD round in Nuketown, the pc froze up and didn't respond to the button. After that, no posting and perennial yellow light. I've tried the same mobo with a 9900X3D and... it boot with no issues.

I already try EVERYTHING. Different sticks of RAM (2*16 G.Skills. At 7800MT/s with XMP profile), just one stick of RAM, clear CMOS battery, different PSU, unplug SDD, GPU and any other shit. look out for shorts in the case. Long story short... I've just RMA the CPU. I mean... with the test with the 9900X3D I saw it clear as day. CPU is fried. Try to test it with other CPU if you can... if you can't, just, RMA the shit out of everything.

Is there any common issue of 9800X3D blowing away?? I'm aware of Asrock mobos, but MSI or Asus??
