It is going tremendously bad for me. I am having the same issue here as I did here:

I returned the cpu cooler, they sent a new one, I verified that the four metal legs or whatever it's called are not broken and set to 1150 socket

I thought "This time, it will be smooth, the last one was broken", because why wouldn't it? I built a more modern PC, it was hard here and there but I got it to work completely. But still, it went the exact same way as in that post

I started off following the manual, putting the backplate on the motherboard, screws in, CPU cooler down

But the CPU cooler couldn't reach the backplate, it has two things that connect it to the backplate so it stays on the motherboard. I tried aligning it many times before removing it all, putting the backplate on the cooler instead, then on the motherboard, the backplate couldn't go into the motherboard now, I gave it the benefit of the doubt and assumed it's because the screws weren't in, so I took the backplate off, screws on then CPU cooler on, but still it doesn't fit. I applied pressure to one of the holes since that's what you do sometimes when building a PC, I managed to get two screws into the holes but not 3/2 diagonal ones, and now those two look like they do in the second image. My concern isn't the thermal paste drying out anymore, it's can I fix these bent legs? They're bent, not broken off.

I made sure to put the fan facing the RAM also.

It made contact with the CPU, so it definitely came down as much as it could.

Manual:

https://www.deepcool.com/download/pdf/AG200.pdf

Motherboard: Asus Z87-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

CPU Cooler: Deepcool AG200

Why doesn't this CPU cooler fit? I was assured it's compatible both by users and pcpartpicker.

Sure you can, just bend them back and pop them in to the hole. This used to be a very common problem with LGA775-115x stock coolers. I actually have a AG200 in my closet waiting to be installed on a LGA1700 system as well.

Did I return the old cooler for nothing if I can just bend it back?? Should I heat up the plastic first?

Yeah honestly, you could have just bent it back and tried again. Nope, just bend it back gently. Dont apply too much force.

Are you trying to press the middle of the locking tabs in before the clear part is all the way through the holes?

If you're talking about the order the manual puts it:

I put the backplate and screws in, they go in just fine

I put the CPU cooler on top, and now I need to connect it to the backplate, I'm pretty sure those things are what you called locking tabs, but they don't fit, they are like 0.5 cm too high, just like the last time.

Yup thats normal. You install them diagonal opposite sides first with a good bit of effort. The ag200 just sucks to install and for 5$ more you could have a cooler that doesn't use plastic clips to install but just screws.

What $5? I'd pay $5 instead of doing this! What CPU cooler do you mean? I live in Sweden, so it's not necessarily another $5 for me, maybe another $15.

" The ag200 just sucks to install"

Okay. Is it possible though? I've seen other people do it, on other motherboards.

I bent it back like Levent suggested, went back to Manual order, so backplate first, it fits on the motherboard, so I guess I bent them back precisely and accurately enough.

Now, I have the problem as usual, but I found out that I can do this, I can attach one side of the cooler to the backplate. I took images of this, I did it on the other side instead of the one that I did it on in the images first, and gently applied pressure towards the dettached side, it made a creaking metal sound or whatever you should call it, I'd be suprised if I can with ease break metal, but I am not doing this without guidance, can I bend it into place? If you look at the angle the cooler is sitting, that's probably the maximum angle I would need to bend it on the other side to attach that side too. I didn't dare getting it back to the normal 0 degrees angle and I'd need to bend it further to attach it.

It's hard to get a good photo, but I can probably take a better one if these are too blurry and stuff.

You need to follow the directions for the cooler. It's not fitting because you have half of it set up for LGA1700 and half of it for LGA115x like you need.

See the difference in the two posts? The one on the right is in the LGA1700/LGA1851 position.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

"See the difference in the two posts?"

"The one on the right is in the LGA1700/LGA1851 position." No, I set it to 1150, I'm pretty sure..

Could that one be one of the legs I bent back, and the positioning with the new legs was far enough from the original position to be stuck at LGA1700 position? I'll check it out right now and tell you if it's set to lga1500.

I'm definitely blacklisting Deepcool when I buy components if I can't install this on my compatible motherboard, I also have a Deepcool AIO that is extremetly loud and makes a grinding noise at 100% fan speed which I haven't been able to fix.

Do you know what to do? I tried attaching one of those clip things and twisting the cpu cooler medium hard into the other one but before I reached, something else happened.

if the thing you did is the picture above, then that will affect anything at all. If you are OCD about it, you can even attempt to fix it.

It's still reasonable frustration at Deepcool if you have to suspiciously twist the cooler and guarantee that happens. I didn't even twist it all the way necessary to attach it, who knows how much more would happen then?

Should I make the sharp twist I was going for again and put the pressure on the fan instead of the heatsink if possible? Is that how you're supposed to install this thing? Because it's not what's in the manual, the manual just shows an image of the cooler being attached.

Hey, can you please tell me if I need to twist it? So far that's the only way it could fit, otherwise I don't know how to attach it.
