Dual screen setup, gaming at non-native resolution issues.

Go to solution Solved by StinkinHippy,

I've actually just hit upon the most inelegant solution ever.. set my multiple displays up so that even though screen 2 is on the right in reality, the computer thinks it's on the left.. then the window position is totally unaffected by the 'shrinkage' on screen 1.

So now i only have to remember to mouse off the left side of the screen to get to my right hand display. Not great, but functional-ish

Hi folks, think i may be outa luck here, but posting in hopes that somebody has a workaround.

I'm currently gaming with dual screen setup, main screen being 4k, secondary 1080p.

My poor little 1660ti has no hope of gaming at 4k, but I'm running the desktop there for content consumption.

My problem comes when i have say, the wan show playing on my second monitor, but want to run a fullscreen game at 1080 on the first.. the resolution adjustment freaks the desktop out, removes the window from screen 2 and puts it at 'bottom right corner of the 4k desktop' which is obviously not displayed because it's running a fullscreen 1080p game on there. Have tried fullscreen,. borderless fullscreen etc, and nothing seems to be working.

Do i just have to run desktop at 1080 and change it any time i do want to watch 4k content or is there a sneaky workaround that stops windows doing whatever it wants with my... windows?

Thanks for any and all help, and sorry for the numerous forum faux pas I've probably made in my first post.

What CPU you do have, & does it have integrated graphics? If it does, you can plug the second monitor into the mobo, & it will use the integrated graphics instead of the dedicated GPU (1660 Ti) for the second monitor. This has the added benefit of freeing up some resources on the dedicated GPU.

Are you playing the YouTube video full screen on the second monitor? Does the same thing happen if you don't (have it full screen)?

I5 9400F... no display out on mobo, so assume no integrated.

Yeah, i've had same issues with fullscreen and not.. the issue as i see it, is that it expects a 3840x2160 (why is this 4k and not 2160p btw?) or w.e desktop next to the 1920x1080 one, and since i have 'extended' the desktop between the two screens, when the main one flicks to fullscreen 1920x1080, it absolutely freaks the 'extended' desktop out and drags all other windows back across, but the desktop hasn't changed, so when the 'window co-ordinates' are updated it becomes a weird tiled effect.. when i was tabbing around i could get it to display my 'fullscreen' in the top left corner of the screen and the other window in the bottom right.

Sadly its the way things are with multi monitor setups when you use exclusive fullscreen and non native resolution.

Yeah, unfortunately that is overscan stuff, rather than resolution handling. Just windows doing windows stuff i guess. The janky solution works for now at least.. still annoying, but i can't afford a new pc with 80 series right now, so annoying is better than broken.
