Hey,
My PC started making strange noises under load about 2 days ago. After 5-10 minutes of gaming (any game), the noise begins. Along with the noise, I also feel vibrations, and I think the source of the issue might be the PSU.

My Specs(Acer Predator Orion 3000 i7)

System Specifications:

  • Processor:

    • 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-11700F @ 2.50 GHz
  • Memory (RAM):

    • 16 GB
  • Video Card:

    • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
    • Total Video Memory: 16 GB
    • Dedicated Memory: 8.0 GB
    • Driver Version: 32.0.15.7242
  • Operating System:

    • Windows 11 (64-bit)
  • BIOS:

    • Version: R01-A4
    • Manufacturer: American Megatrends Inc.

Attached is a Soundfile with 1 Minute of the Sound and a DUMP of CPUZ

Thanks in advance.

I can't listen to your sound file but noise and vibration usually means a problem with a fan (or pump but you didn't mention having water cooling).

A fan can make those vibrations when the motor is defective (rare) or when a bearing is worn out (more common). You can always try to open the fan bearing to lubricate it but it gives mixed results at best. Changing the fan for a new one is usually cheaper and done only once.

If your PSU fan is the problem, check if your PSU is still under warranty and contact the manufacturer to see if it accepts RMA or something.

Good luck !

I checked all the fans(except PSU). I even set the fan Speed on my RTX 3070 to a 100% and it did not make the sound. Thats why iam guessing its the PSU but iam not sure

If you have a stethoscope, just bring it close to each fan and it should be apparent which one makes the noise. You can also use some flexible tube or hose to do the same thing. This is an old mechanic's trick to locate the source of abnormal sounds in a noisy environment.

As an alternative, you can simply test with another PSU and see if the sound/vibration issue persists.

Have a nice day !

Also, resonance. It may not make any sound on 100% fans but there might be one specific speed on which something somewhere starts vibrating and making noises. Note the fan speeds (CPU, GPU, case fans) when the PC gets noisy and try to replicate it manually, without the load. If nothing happens - this indeed may be a PSU fan turning on and making some noises.

If you have an HDD it may also contribute a great deal to the noise situation, especially an old one. Especially, a failing one.
