Disabled Win10 Updates. Possible to update only Defender?

Hello all,

 

Windows 10, Ver 22H2, OS Build: 19045.4291

 

A quick background. After running Windows Update my laptop needed to restart - and I was presented with this:

Just could not log back into Windows. Spent hours trying every fix I saw out there - command line, sfc scannow, dsm , chkdsk, safe mode (wouldn't work), USB repair option from Win10 iso (wouldn't work). As always I should have tried the simplest fix first which worked like a charm - I restored to 1 day earlier and the laptop runs normally now. Really pays off to have those Restore points.

 

So its something in the Win update that borked the system. Afraid that an auto-update and installation will happen to cause this again I have disabled the Update service (services.msc).

 

However I would like to keep Defender Definitions up to date. Is this possible to grab these and install manually without going through the Win Update process?
