Motherboard B550 What to pick

B550 Motherboard

I'm trying to decide on which b550 motherboard to get and ultimate came down to this three motherboard the MSI B550 gaming plus and Asus ROG Strix b550-a as well as the ASRock b550 steel legend, I don't know which is better and they're around the same price point in my region...or should I just go for am5 or the Intel equivalent which is lga 1700 at this point in terms of price, I'm pairing this with a 3070 btw, I first paired it with a 3600 or a 5500 but if my budget will allow it I might go for am5 or lga 1700.

A few things: 

 

1) the 5500 is hot garbage. Do not buy. The 3600 is better. (Same goes for 5600G and 5700 non-X)

 

2) if you're shopping now, the 5600T (yes amd now uses T, but not like intel's T.)  It's cheaper than the 5600 or 5600x

 

As for a board, any B550 is fine. Just make sure it supports PCIE 4 and has enough i/o on the back for you. 

 

As far as AM4 vs 5?  Gonna be price dependent.

The fact that you are looking at 100$+ new b550 is already a huge mistake and implies that with enough optimization you can easily fit am5

 

Though just to entertain the "ultimate b550" if you went for a 5500 gigabyte b550m gaming or b550 unify x which should be able to run ddr4 5000 with relative ease and since cezzane scales with vsoc expect 5200+ with vsoc >1.4v albiet this is unexplored territory so at your own risk, for the 3600 literally doesnt matter as the imc isnt good enough to leverage a 2dimmer and 3800 is alot less of a pain to hit than 5000 on a shit imc (afaik desync fclk is just about capable of 5000 but not much more, cezzane is closer to 6000 with desync fclk), head to head max overclocked 5500 (4.6-4.8ghz ddr4 ~5000) vs max overclocked 3600 (~4.6ghz ddr3 3800) the 5500 should beat the 3600 as it simply has better ipc and the really fast ram makes up for the cache deficit and thats not even considering that you can get an older/bad 3600 sample that has issues clocking beyond 4.4ghz

 

Edit : uhhh apparently the unify x gets matched by the 4dimmer gigabyte aorus pro/master boards shown in This ddr4 6000 sub

Skip 5500, a 5600 can last you 2-3 years or more when upgrade to a RTX5080 (or future 6080)

 

And if you are in the right market you can find 5700X3D, that would be amazing and one of the best for AM4

 

Personally I use Aorus B550M Elite mostly because it's the cheapest board with heatsink on VRAM in my market, and of course supports PCie 4 SSD and Graphics cards
