Ability to connect to internet has magically stopped

Go to solution Solved by RobPlev,

Just to wrap up the post, I have used the system restore functionality and gone back to before the last windows update on the 7th. This has done the trick and I’ve been able to now connect via Ethernet or WiFi.

Bit frustrating because I have no idea what the actual cause is but best assumption is problems with latest Windows Update.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I have a Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro AC motherboard and have had no problems whatsoever for years. Its WiFi connection is via an antenna that screws into the motherboard. I used my computer Monday (10/02) with no issue and switched it off. I turn it on today (12/02) and I can no longer use WiFi. Not even an option to connect to a network.

Does anyone have any idea what has happened and how to fix? I’ll list my troubleshooting below:

- Restarted numerous times

- Disconnected and reconnected antenna

- Used Windows troubleshooting

- Checked BIOS to ensure WiFi is enabled (I didn’t see any network devices other than Ethernet)

- I’ve connected my PC to my Router via Ethernet and it connect but doesn’t let me go on the internet so can’t check drivers

how bout the actual drivers the hardware needs , are those installed?

Sorry, how do I know exactly what ones to check for? I’d assume everything is installed as it was working two days ago.

I’ve seen limited posts on this issue for my motherboard but they seem to be people installing for the first time.

I second reinstalling Windows, obviously quite understandable if you only want to that as a last resort but it fixed my crappy old gateway laptop when Bluetooth decided to magically not exist. Also make sure you have the drivers that your particular motherboard needs (you can load em on a USB stick).

Keep in mind that Windows will let you keep all your files and data so unless you're paranoid you're not risking much by resetting it.

and you can back up your files on a external hard drive
