Hi there as the name suggest i get random performance drops when gaming. Ive been closely monitoring it when im gaming and looking at task manager when theres significant frame drops however nothing shows up. Ive also performed Stress test and all performed as it should. Im not sure if its a random ram issue or a misconfigure somewhere on my end but any general advice on where to start problem solving would be very grateful, below is a parts list.

CPU-I7 12700K

GPU-4070

PSU-Cooler master MWE 750W 80 plus

RAM-4x8GB ddr4

MB-ASrock Z690 steel legend

OS-Windows 11

Storage-2 1TB NVME SSD 1x 230GB HDD

System is also running through a Clipsal UPS which i recently installed due to blackouts and such but problem was occurring before this was installed.

I don't know how your system is set up, but i would remove the HDD from the equation and test without it, as i've seen systems slowing down when they have one installed..  windows suddenly decides to index it or similar and it all goes to crap during this period.

i havn't had one since 2017..

Failing HDDs can cause issues with excessive CPU interrupt signals. Remove the HDD as a first step.

Second step would be your RAM configuration, potentially a bad DIMM, so going down to a 2x8GB setup. Generally, you'd want to stick to two DIMMs to alleviate some of the reliability issues with doubled up DIMMs.

Third would be your cooling. Since you don't mention your cooler, I suspect this may be something you haven't delved into. A 12700k isn't a low wattage CPU, and thermal throttling on a 12700k could tank the boost clocks enough to get significant framerate drops.
