Internet is 400/400 but my PC gets 100/100 only...

Hi!

I'm a first timer here, but I wanted to ask my fellow LTT people for some help.

Backstory if it helps: So I just moved to a new apartment and got internet installed yesterday. The speeds went from 300/300 to 400/400, which showed on Wifi.

My PC setup is in the other room (router is living room, setup bedroom, next wall over) and I have ethernet passthrough in the walls (in and out ports).

Essentially, all my devices can properly use the 400/400 internet, wired or wireless, except my PC. My PC boasts a whopping 100/100, with Wifi or ethernet.

Drivers are up to date and I also tried Speed & Duplex but it hasn't helped.

Any help is much appreciated!

It sounds like there's a 10/100 Fast Ethernet link somewhere between your PC and your router, but we'll need some more information to really help you.

What link speed is Windows reporting?

What model router/modem do you have?

Is there a network switch between your PC and your router/modem? If so, what is its model name?

Are you connected through cabling inside your walls? Do you know if it has all four pairs of wires connected?

Always leave these on Auto. Hard-coding a network port to a specific speed and duplex is only needed in rare circumstances, but it's common advice online from people who don't have a good understanding of networking.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

Thank you for the responses!

Link speed is 100M in Windows (Ethernet), (I did a speedtest on WiFi again and this is now on 400M)

It's called Technicolor X2 Telia

There's no network switch between, I believe these are keystone jacks, I don't know about the model name though.

Ethernet cable has some scratches but not deep that the wires are impacted but the ethernet cable male connector plastic part fell off just now. Is it just loose in the port?

I'll put it back on Auto then, thank you for that.

What router? Some cheap things still have 10/100 ports...

If it really has gigabit ports then likely the wiring's faulty/incomplete.

Yeah I checked the wiring again, because that seemed like the likely cause now and because this cable is 25 meters, it had a puncture where it was wrapped together.

I tried another cable to my laptop and had gigabit ethernet showing in Windows.

So it is solved🙃

But still thank you for the quick responses!
