I Forced 3 iPhone users to switch to Android - 30 Day Android Challenge

@LinusTech @Elijah Horner LMG should setup something for viewers to report errors and which also get picked up in faster time.
After releasing a new video, put a team in place who monitors the reactions of viewers or posts on the concerning topic at the forum, at least for the first 24 hours.

Or make something (as someone mentioned before on this forum) like what you can do on github, where users can report issues and see the status of their report.

Because I made my "report" now more then 36 hours ago, and nothing has happened, at least nothing I can see.

It's a shame that, after everything what happened before and even after introducing a ECC squad, that LMG still makes such mistakes.

Just started the video and given all the people are using the Pro models (smaller versions) of the iPhones, why was Pixel 9 Pro (non XL) not included? Should've been a no brainer to include a smaller version of the phone, similar to how the S24 (non Ultra) is included as well.

The first complaint from the lady was about the size of 9 Pro XL, well seems about right given she is used to a smaller phone.

Thank you, this was my biggest gripe so far. Offering the Pixel 9 XL to replace non MAX iPhones was... Not a good idea.

Sure, but its kinda Sony's fault for having a stupid naming scheme. When spoken aloud, the names of the latest phones are the "Xperia One Five" and "Xperia Five Five", both of which sound awkward to say. "Xperia Five" could possibly apply to both since both are "Generation V", but it also could apply to neither, but instead an older generation like the "Xperia Five Four" (Xperia 5 IV).

But yeah for the text overlay it should say "Xperia 1 V".

Personally, I am currently closer than I have ever been to switching back from iOS to Android. My 12 Mini isn't getting any younger, and while the new battery I put in a month ago really does help, I do find myself wanting a nicer camera. iOS is nice, but at the end of the day I don't actually use any of the Apple exclusive features - I couldn't care less about iDrop, iMessage and the like, because a lot of my friends and family don't use iPhones, so they're useless to me.

I recently helped my GF shop for an Android, she ended up choosing the Xperia 5V and I am honestly really tempted by it as well. Nice form factor, good camera, great battery life, no bloatware, SD-Card slot and a headphone jack. What's not to love? Well. How about the fact that Sony seems to have chosen not to release a new Xperia 5 this year, because it appears that it's too niche even for Sony, and that even the Xperia 1 VI appears to be mostly a downgrade from the Xperia 1 V?

Phones these days are just lame.

I recently switched from Sony to Samsung. They have really good hardware with the Xperia, it just seems like Sony just doesn't really give a damn about their phone division. Their software and security update policy has basically been, "Maybe, if we feel like it." which I'm just tired of. Samsung's move toward 7 year support is a good move and I want to reward them for that move. (Of course only time will tell if they stick to it.)

Shitty branding is part of the space they chose to play in though. They could call Sony out for bad branding/naming etc but they still have a responsibility to call products by their correct name even if its dumb. It hurt me to defend Sony but It is what it is

Good idea, like Canon does with their cameras.

Yeah ... people/fans doing unpaid work work (ECC-squad) isn't the solution for a business.

Getting product  names wrong is bad. What kills credibility (that can't be regained) is behaviour like this:

Using the same dataset to push a different verdict that contradicts the actual data. The worst aspect is that this happened within 1 week timespan.

If you were to do this in an R&D/professional environment, as a first offender you would get a very big slap on the wrist and a conversation that makes it clear that next time you will be walked out.

Just to make sure: This is on the writer (they did it) but also an structural issue that is on the higher ups/C-level at LMG (they have the oversight/"caring responsibility"). To quote the DFG (aimed at universities but can be applied to the free economy):

Quote

Guideline 3: Organisational responsibility of heads of research institutions
The heads of HEIs and non-HEI research institutions create the basic frame-
work for research. They are responsible for ensuring adherence to and the
promotion of good practice, and for appropriate career support for all re-
searchers. The heads of research institutions guarantee the necessary con-
ditions to enable researchers to comply with legal and ethical standards. The
basic framework includes clear written policies and procedures for staff selec-
tion and development as well as for the support of researchers in early career
phases and equity and diversity.

[...]

[different chapter/rule]

...

Not every breach of good research practice constitutes misconduct. Only de-
liberate or grossly negligent infringements defined in a set of regulations are
considered scientific misconduct. Particular examples of misconduct include
fabrication of data, falsification of data
and plagiarism.

The Declaration of Independence, once the charter of democracy, begins by saying that certain things are self-evident. If we were to trace the history of the American mind from Thomas Jefferson to William James, we should find that fewer and fewer things were self-evident, until at last hardly anything is self-evident. That basically kills anything with a software update. Every phone nowadays ships with 18:9 at least, with most breeds of thin bezel phones at 19.5:9.

I don't mind making some concessions, but a good camera, dual SIM and an additional SD card slot are necessary. And that alone brings it down to less than five phones, all of which are horrible.

Then there's the thing where I feel a bit stupid to pay for a new phone that is going to be  a worse experience than my current phone.

Fair, I've never found the need for a double sim but I guess the others are a nice-to-have. As a long-term iPhone user I cannot comprehend upgrading storage on the fly lol

Dual sim is for Business or wider coverage generally. Im my case, i have an E-Sim for my main service, then a physical sim for a multi network sim for all of the network providers in my country so i can get coverage wherever possible.

Thanks for correcting the video, almost all "errors" are fixed now.
Below are some minor errors which still are in the video, just want to mention them so that you know.

2:59

  • Oppo X8 > Oppo Find X8
  • Xperia 5 > Xperia 1V

13:38

  • Oppo X8 > Oppo Find X8

16:43

  • Elijah saying: "6000mAh battery" > 5000mAh

19:31

  • Sony Xperia 6 > Sony Xperia 1 VI (as shown in the link of the picture)

Interesting concept which should be a lot of fun, but overall the video was pretty disappointing and simply showcases why I don't listen to any info LTT gives about phones. LTT gets so much of it wrong, when there's very information websites like GSMArena to pull spec information from. I also hate the clickbait title; there was no forcing. Don't sell me a bucket and give me a thimble.

This reminds me that I need to buy a new phone, but still can't, since all phones currently suck too much. I have a list of about a dozen things (see below spoiler) I want from a phone and at most there's one odd phone that satisfies one, maybe two of these conditions but has other deal breakers.

  Hide contents
  1. Great camera for video
  2. Two SIM slots (work/private)
  3. Over 1TB of storage, i.e. through an SD card
  4. No notch or punchhole, but a black bar above the screen for the camera
  5. Doesn't plaster the whole surface with screen so I can touch it without triggering stuff
  6. Battery replaceable without using tools
  7. Seven or more years of software support
  8. $500 or less
  9. Headphone jack or two USB C ports
  10. Weighs less than 160g
  11. 16:9 aspect ratio
  12. Comes with a pen inside

Guess I'll have to look into older phones and put a new OS on them myself.

Your demands are far too great, you'll never find something with that spec.

You're probably right, but the point of the video is give their "test subjects" the regular shopping experience, and the Pixel 9 Pro is very easy to get. There's availability everywhere and store can order them for the client. Not having literally what half of them wanted in terms of size when it exist and is readily available skews the results.
