It’s been a very long time since I’ve shopped for a new monitor so I’m not 100% certain what to look out for. I’m wanting to get an ultra-wide monitor, though I’m not sure if I want 4K or just 1440p yet. Based on my limited knowledge of modern monitors, here’s what I know: I think I’d prefer OLED if possible. However, I’ve heard most OLED displays on ultra-wides aren’t as good as they are on standard display monitors(?). I’m mostly a single player gamer and I very rarely play competitive games, but I’d still like a minimum refresh rate of 165Hz at least, and for it to be G-Sync compatible. I don’t have a specific budget in mind, so I'm hoping for opinions on any and all ultra-wides.

Right now I’m currently in the process of buying a whole new PC. I’ve already bought the CPU, an AMD Ryzen 9 9900X. My GPU however I will bring over from my old PC (FOR NOW) until I can afford a newer GPU. Current GPU is an EVGA SC2 1080Ti. The card I’d like to upgrade to would probably be the 5070Ti, but if those end up being hard to get, I’ve also thought about a 4070Ti SUPER. I also wouldn’t rule out a 5080 if I got lucky, but I think the 2 former options may be the most likely for me. So I’d like recommendations based on my future GPU rather than my current one, cause who knows when I’ll even actually purchase the monitor.

Depends on if you care more about framerate than pixels then 1440p. Other way around 4k. On the 4070 ti super and (maybe) 5070 ti i believe you would be sacrificing quite a bit of frame rate, especially on cranked settings.

now as of actual recommendations don't look to me. All I have to say is IPS is fine if you find OLED's too expensive. TN's are faster but god do they look like crap colorwise and have terrible viewing angles. VA's have better color accuracy but terrible ghosting/pixel response time. I never go for anything except OLED's and IPS. But also IPS is only a last resort if limited by cost.

It could depend on just how many frames I’d sacrifice but I guess I’d need to do a little research to know that. 4K would be really nice, but 1440p definitely still looks great, and I'm not against it.

for reference, on my 4070 super, FH5 cranked to max settings, frame generation, dlss quality, and no sharpening, 4k runs at 60-70 fps and 1440p runs at 90-130fps

That's not half bad at 4K, but I've been doing some research today and I think I am settled on 3440x1440p. I'm looking at a couple of MSI QD-OLED displays that are surprisingly well priced for what they're offering.
