RTX 5080 Fans spinning but no display

Go to solution Solved by Chree,

Reseat the GPU, update MB bios its a very old MB for a brand new GPU. reinstall the Nvidia App. Do not use the .16 driver use the .24 hotfix

https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5624

My 5080 wasnt detected until I installed drivers.
I also had an integrated graphics so It could boot.  (might have to plug ur hdmi DP cord into the MB instead of ur 5080 until u install the drivers.

Hey guys,

First of all this is my first time installing any sort of PC part, I have recently upgraded from a RTX 2070 Super to a RTX 5080 OC from gigabyte. I watched some videos from youtube and followed some instructions from the nvidia and gigabyte website, and even installed the drivers before doing the GPU. When I finally managed to install the 5080 and boot my pc the card shows its RGB lights and the fans work but it doesnt output nothing to the display, I have switched around back to the RTX 2070 and it worked fine. But no matter what I do, switching cables from display port to hdmi, rechecking all connections on GPU and PSU, updating the BIOS, it doesnt seen to make a difference. The specs are as followed and where assembled by a friend

I7 9700k

32gb of DDR4 ram

850 watt corsair PSU

MSI z390 gaming edge AC WIFI

any help is welcomed

Hi,

Is it really no display at all or is it displaying the BIOS logo and then nothing?
Do you have some debug LED that remains lit, on the motherboard? (It's above the 24 pins)

Also, I've to mention this, the 9700k isn't gonna be able to extract full performance of that 5080, and it will run at 100% pretty often. I've a guy that's running a 9900KS (so the fastest chip of that plateform), and a 4080 Super: It's really struggleling. Fair warning on that.
But it doesn't explain the non-display tho, it should still work.

Its really no display at all not even the BIOS.

checking the debug LED, it seens that the VGA light is ON.

Yes i know the 9700k will be a huge bottleneck, the upgrade to the 5080 is only the start I an planning to buy in a couple of months a 9800x3d along with ddr5 ram and a new motherboard, but that will be when the price of the cpu drops a bit

Not in the US, but in europe, and in a rather small coubtry. online stores had them in stock for like 30 minutes. Altough it is more expensive than buying in the US.

figured I would rather buy one now at the lowest price then wait 6 months

Let’s ask the most important question. How did you even get one this close to launch???

The man didn't ask to judge his buying decisions, he's asking for help...
I get the point tho, lack of maturity of the generation etc... But it isn't the point of the topic.

As your old 2070 is still working I would suggest to try 5080 in different computer if you can.

I agree. That, or/and switching the PSU maybe?

I will give it a try with a more powerfull PSU in a couple of days hopefully that will fix the issue, and it will be a matter of buying a new PSU, that I hoped I wouldnt have to

Anyways thanks for the help guys

What PSU do you have?

CORSAIR RM850x, tough it would be enough to do the job, but it is not new.

it "should" be enough, not sure why it shouldn't, it's an A-tier PSU

and if you bought it new, it doesn't matter that it has some age on it.
