[HELP] Upgrading from a Laptop to a PC

Go to solution Solved by podkall,

Alright, right off the bat, I can say so far everything looks decent or good.

But, there is room for improvement, from price efficiency standpoint, potentially lowering price or paying same for more performance.

With things come few questions:

  • Is the case chosen because in aim towards certain aesthetic?
  • Same question would be for the AIO cooler, as the CPU chosen can be cooled with potentially cheaper Air Cooler
  • The NVME and PSU could potentially be cheaper
  • And the Motherboard could be better for similar price, maybe cheaper
  • The CPU too, if the 7600 is cheaper than 7600x, there's not much missing out on not having 7600x

So the simplest tweaks would look like this:

https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/yDxGb2

Notes:

  • MB could be few € cheaper, but it won't be white
  • AIO could be replaced by 40€ Air Cooler, again not white
  • RAM I saw for approx 95€ not white
  • NVME can be 7€ cheaper and still decently fast
  • cheapest decent 750W PSU can be 97€, not white, there's only one reasonably priced white PSU
  • GPU, for 600€ you start seeing lowest price of 7900 GRE cards, at 700€ 7900 XT cards

For monitor, this one might be better, not sure: Dell G2725D

For case, here are other decent "fish tank" cases, from reputable brands:

Montech XR

Phanteks XT View

Montech KING 65 PRO

NZXT H6 Flow

Budget (including currency): 1500 Euro 150 Euro more wouldn't be a problem

Country: Germany

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: theHunter COTW, League of Legends, Sims4, Planet Zoo, Phasmophobia and Palworld, I also want to stream/record some of the gameplay 🙂

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): My girlfriend need's a new PC and is upgrading from a laptop so she needs everything except for a mouse and headset xD
I have already done so part picking ( https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/wGp8b2 ) and wanted to know, if this is good/what could be improved.

Keyboard is the "AULA F75" (couldn't find it on pc part picker)

ewww b840, that chipset is garbage

it doesnt let you overclock ram or cpu

b650 is fine

i get aesthetics but i'd rather go with an air cooler to save money... is what i would say if there were any white peerless assassins on german pcpp lol

https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/NqLD74

sacrificed the all-white theme a bit to fit in a 7900 xt

Hi, first of all thanks for the help and the other suggestions. 🙂

Now to your questions
1. The case was chosen because she thought it was pretty 😄
2. Same goes for the AIO
The rest are really questions xD

If you want I can show you an example of any further tweaks I mentioned,

also show her some of the cases I've mentioned, does it have to be fishtank case?

There are few "normal" (white) cases that look great, like Phanteks XT PRO ULTRA, Montech AIR 903 MAX, Lian Li Lancool 207, Phanteks Eclipse G400A, Lian Li LANCOOL 215.

She wants to keep the case, because "the other ones aren't looking as good" xD

The PSU doesn't have to be white, black should be fine since you cant see it in the end and I think black cables could look really great.

Would the GPU upgrade be worth the 100 Euro or is it just a rather small upgrade?

And the AIO is fine, its only 60 Euro.

The rest I think should be fine since she wants the white aesthetic 😄

well, I only recommended white PSU because most come with white cables, like the GF A3 Snow,

That depends, "buying GPU is like walking in a minefield" as someone else said,

in this case, you pay 100€ more, for approx 100€ worth more performance.

7900 GRE is ~9% faster than 7800 XT, has same 16GB of VRAM, and the performance approx translates to the 9% more or less, depending on game:

60€ for 360mm cooler, pretty good,

Thermalright's coolers are pretty good,

ARCTIC: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III 360 A-RGB are also decent option if affordable,

whatever is cheaper works.

Alright, check out the RAM on my list, it's white, and has better subtimings.

And all the other parts.

If you did, great.

If you changed your list, the URL link changed, and the URL on your post, doesn't link to that list anymore, each list has unique code, so any change means the URL changes too.

Also, check the white PSU again, it's 850W, or if you don't mind black cables, check this one out: be quiet! Pure Power 12 and this one: be quiet! Pure Power 12

Okay, so we looked at the parts together and this is what she thought looks best (guess I was wrong with the black cables and the air cooler another person recommended xD), hope this is good 😄

The RAM needed to have RGB on it so yeah.

Once again thank you so much for the help 😄
