Hello and thanks for taking the time to check this out!

I’ve got the laptop in the title from a friend with a dead screen. They’ve since replaced it as they do architectural modeling so it was time for an upgrade anyway.

Laptop functions normally when plugged into an external screen and it doesn’t appear as if just the backlight is out. A panel replacement seems easy enough on this model, but before I order parts does anyone have any alternative ideas?

Hi there,

This might be a silly question idk if you've already done this. Try plugging the laptop back into the external screen.

Right click the desktop and head to display settings. Do you see 2 numbers in the rectangle like: 1 | 2?

If there's a monitor in a dark grey square, it means a monitor is being detected, but there's no signal to output to. Most likely driver issue or hardware failure?

I'll check it out this afternoon and get back with you. Great idea, didn't think of it! We ran through drivers, reinstalled windows already. So I'm hoping it's a hardware failure limited to the panel. I'm not sure how the panel is driven from the system itself but hoping it's not power delivery from the motherboard.

Looks like it's not detected at all, not even as an unknown device in device manager, any thoughts?
