Remember the Woremor RF Blocking Paint we tested last year? WELP Elijah decided to volunteer his apartment to test out if this paint can be used to BLOCK his neighbors WIFI to see if we can improve his! So join us as we install an ASUS router and break out the paint rollers to paint Elijah’s apartment pitch black…

Would have been interesting to see if painting over the RF Blocking Paint with normal paint would affect it at all.

Or if you can just source graphite infused paint from some other seller for much less; Would they perform the same. This was actually a pretty interesting concept!

He did say he's going to paint over it with eggshell, so, that could be something that is tested.

I don't expect covering it to cause any issues though.

The paint is designed to be painted over, based on the specs sheet and everything the company told us, painting over it shouldnt change the result

Not any rage or anything for my part, I've never had issues with my Asus products or at least not something that couldn't be solved within the normal costumer service. But weren't they out in the cold for an extended period due to poor customer service in North America (maybe more places)?

How long have the sponsor ban been lifted?

Again, not complaining or anything, pure curiosity

mITX is awesome! I regret nothing (apart from when picking parts or have to do maintainance *cough*cough*)

Pro tip: If you can't afford this paint draw your walls black with a pencil

With enough effort (1000+ layers or so) it should perform the same and be much cheaper.

It's all graphite after all

Hey Elijah,

When was your apartment built? Older buildings with popcorn ceilings have asbestos in them -- we got emails warning us about this in university when I was dorming. Just wanna make sure y'all are safe.

We looked since we had to scrap it. It was built in the mid 2000's Totally fine no asbestos

Since the floor is a concern, a small scale test you could try is either buying a lot of faraday cloth or brass mesh and just yeet it onto the floor (with grounding). If it has a significant improvement, you can pull the carpet and put it down under it. I would test it similar to the box test, replacing one wall of the box with the material and checking for similar signal strengths. This way you will know how many layers of cloth you will need or if one is fine.

For the windows, use metallic window tint, sometimes called ir reflecting. be careful with dual pane windows though.

It would also have been nice to see spectrum waterfalls before and after, because going off the performance of cellular and 2.4, it seems like this paint sorta runs out of effectiveness north of ~3ghz.

My apartment flooded shortly after this video and I might have to rip up all the carpet anyways....Maybe I should ask Woremor for more paint and just paint the sub floor...

Probably. There are other brands and sellers for shielding paint, still looking at around 30$(L40) or 50$(HSF54) per liter from YSHIELD for example. Apparently it's used in guitars and the like. Alternatively you can try mixing your own given the ingredients for the actual paint is pretty much just paint and graphite, but that would require some trial and error to get the desired results and large quantities of powdered graphite. You're looking at around 20$ per kg of powdered graphite from a chemical company so you'll end up saving a decent amount of money depending on the ratio of graphite to paint.

This was very funny to watch, but also rather interesting. I could see maybe painting one small room with it if you were desperate to have a space with really good wifi connection, but not a whole apartment. I wonder if painting over this black paint with a thin coat of any other color would mess it up. The company might want to consider offering it in other colors. At  least in lighter shades of gray.

i've seen some tinfoil hat guy that lined every wall in his house with tin foil, and it completely removed any cell reception at all (this was back in the nokia brick days, so no 4G data xD), he did ofcourse claim this had all sorts of incredible health effects.. but if you're renovating and you have way too much neighbor wifi in your life, put tin foil sheets on the back of the drywall.

Sounds like you've got some kind of Willy Wonka wallpaper in there ATM.
Meow-Mix flavored?
That stuff is like "Crack for Cats".

I'm not sure if they'd like the paint if Wonka didn't make it.

Can we get a full LPT (Linus paint tips) episode?

The Declaration of Independence, once the charter of democracy, begins by saying that certain things are self-evident. If we were to trace the history of the American mind from Thomas Jefferson to William James, we should find that fewer and fewer things were self-evident, until at last hardly anything is self-evident. I have a weird use case in mind. I've been using HTC's wigig adapter for wireless PC VR which has been pretty good, but the setup is getting pretty dated. I'm looking at things like the Quest 3, Quest Pro, Vive Focus Vision, and even Pimax headsets.

Preferences and other specs aside, most all recent headset releases have a wifi 6e implementation for wireless streaming. With their given resolution and frame rates, SERIOUS compression has to happen to drive the displays wirelessly over 6e, and most reviews bemoan the hiccups and compression artifacts experienced while running these headsets wirelessly.

While 6e supposedly avoids most interference by utilizing the 6GHz band, I do wonder if an isolated room/chamber with only the headset and wireless router would provide a less problematic experience. 6e theoretically has a max throughput of ~10gbps though real world conditions generally achieve ~1.7gbps, and with wireless VR streaming you really want as much bandwidth as possible.

You would want a beefy PC and 6e wireless router both with 10gbps Ethernet to not bottleneck the theoretical max throughput though it may be unlikely you exceed 2.5gbps.

So I guess I'm saying I want to see if an optimized setup in an isolated room would actually provide a better experience and be an actual use case for this crazy paint. I wouldn't be to surprised if the paint causes weird reflections or other interference issues that attenuate the signal and effectively reduce the throughput.

Edit: (plus add a little yellow tape over the black paint, and you have yourself a Dreamatorium lol.)

So the 5G blocking paint made no difference in the 5Ghz spectrum so it's not 5G blocking paint?

Not sure if you're joking, but the term 5G for cellular networks is not a reference to 5ghz. It's short for 5th Generation.

Partly joking. If it's not blocking 5Ghz but it's blocking lower frequencies then it's not blocking 5G signals running the high end of mid band and high band, it would only be blocking low band so like definitely not blocking 5G, more like blocking 4G, LTE, 2.4 Wifi, and some very limited part of the 5G.
