I recently upgraded my Laptop from a ASUS G752VY (i7 6700hq, 16gb 2133mhz and GTX 980m 4GB) to a ASUS GL502VY ( i7 7700HQ, 16gb 2666mhz and GTX 1070). Thermals on both laptops are okay and in benchmarks both laptops GPU´s are able to draw 110 watts without throttling. But in GTA5 (same settings, same resolution, same driver version 366.36) my old laptop performs way better and outputs stable ~70fps without dips. See attached pictures...both pictures were taken after loading the same savepoint and standing still at the same position looking the same direction. Old Laptop cant get more than +61 fps and dips to 40 are common. Both Laptops are connected to the powersupply which outputs sufficient power (230 watt).

So far I have tried everything: reinstall Windows, install Windows 11, try old Nvidia Driver, reinstall nvidia driver, use nvidia recommended settings, fullscreen, borderless window, windowed mode. I am out of ideas pls help.

Probably just check power settings, cause it looks like the second pic  is consuming a lot more power and also just double check that vsync isn't on anywhere.

V-Sync is off and powersettings are set to max performance, both in windows and Nvidia control panel.

Only game that happens is GTA5? Does the 1070 mobile perform better in other games? In your screenshots the 1070 mobile (top one I presume) is only used 60%, probably CPU single thread limited? Check task manager if 1 of the threads hits 100%.

Run a Furmark with the same settings side by side and see which one performs better. Also, you can run 3Dmark, Passmark Performancetest or any other tool that allows benchmarking of the GPU.

There seems to be something limiting the GPU

Either the CPU as it's 85% used, or some frame limitation

Btw from a 980m to a 1070m is a sidegrade it isn't much better

Same with 6700 to 7700

Yes it performs much better than the GTX 980m in other games like ready or not and cyberpunk. In 3D Mark the score is also much higher ~3000points more. I cant explain to myself why the previos generation of the CPU and GPU should perform better?

hmmm, I would use another directx verison for GTA5

"Well, I found the solution. For anyone having the same problem, I went to the directory of gtav and searched commandline and there was a txt file which the only thing in there was directx 10_1 and ignore different videocard. I just changed the 10_1 to 11 and problem solved. I am not going to lie but direct 11 feels faster especially in the menus"

You are awesome, stay safe and healthy.
