Budget (including currency): no budget (i want to buy what i need)

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: marvel rivals, single player high graphic games, val, etc.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

1440p 480hz monitor (what i want to play on)

Current setup:

5800x3d

corsair h100i cooler

msi b450 tomahawk

corsair 32gb memory

980 pro 1 tb, 2tb ssd

evga rtx 2070 xc ultra

Corsair RM1000x (2021) 1000 W 80+ Gold

I have a question if my psu is okay for the 5080 because I know that using the split connector is not good, i just got this psu like a year and half ago. Do yall think it will be okay? Also my mother board is not 4th gen pcie, is it worth upgrading even if i want to keep the 5800x3d bc its a good cpu still? Will the performance boost be alot with 4th gen, also if it is then I would also upgrade for more m.2 slots. The only thing is, i was thinking of just saving for later to upgrade my cpu and motherboard and ram to am5, and i dont want to just waste money if i dont have to.

The PSU should be fine. There is nothing wrong using an adapter for the GPU power. Just make sure all connections are well seated.

Using a PCIe 3.0 slot for the RTX 5080 is likely going to sacrifice some performance. But the uplift from an RTX 2070 will be remarkable. I would not change the motherboard unless moving to AM5 with PCIe 5.0. Which essentially means a new system.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
