looking for a cpu upgrade., help

Current setup:

CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X-CF

Resolution and refresh rate: 1080p @ 240Hz

16 gb of ram

Looking for a CPU upgrade

Willing to consider a motherboard change if necessary for the CPU upgrade.

i generally thought about the intel i9 12900k but not sure

How much is a 9900k for you?  Hyper threading adds a nice uplift.

 

Otherwise a mobo + 12900k would be a good fit if price is right.

i looked a bit and saw that the 9900k is overpriced because of market high interest. at 400 dollars and saw that i can get a 12900k and a z790 for 460 dollars should i consider it or is there a better option?

Ryzen 5600 would be an upgrade, without having to buy DDR5 RAM and is probably the cheapest option.    Or even a Ryzen 5700X3D + mobo is peak gaming before you get to DDR5,  UNless you can find a 13600K + DDR4 mobo in your area.
