Yeah, I know, bookmarks, don't be such a freak, whatever.

I don't need a ton of storage, not doing 3d rendering, video (or any other kind of) editing, pretty much just internet & the occasional light gaming (I have a 5700x system for when I feel like playing anything more demanding than TF2, which is not very often).

Can live with base storage (planning to get a dock for ports & m.2 ssd slot) but I have zero tab discipline.

I currently have 395 tabs in Firefox, and I have plenty of personality flaws to work on before I get to this one, so how much memory do you think a

Mac Mini needs for somebody who just loves leaving things open to definitely get back to later?

Any benefit to higher spec (more CPU/GPU cores) processors?

How much RAM are you using now, with the 400 tabs open?

There is not set amount or ratio, where every 100 tabs = 8GB.

It depends what tabs, what content, what you are doing.

391 tabs gets me to ~ 50% with 32 gb RAM.

The Internet tells me that OSX is more efficient with memory than Windows, and I don't know if maybe Safari is more memory efficient, so I'm trying to figure out if I need to cough up for a ton of integrated memory, or if I'm just worrying over not much.

You're overworrying.   I asume you're worried that 16GB isn;'t enough?

Yah pretty much.

I can do more memory/storage if I need to, but $200 for 8gigs of RAM or 256 gigs of storage REALLY rubs me the wrong way, the base model is a great deal but IDK if 16 gb will be any good 5 years from now.

I can still use my 2010 macbook in a pinch because I upgraded it from 2 to 8 gb RAM and an SSD, but that's not an option anymore.

Not sure I'd get the Mac Mini then.  Not a good value if you are a heavy user?  I mean, be honest with yourself. If you buy it with 8GB or even 16GB... will you beat yourself up over it and wonder if you messed up?  You acknowledge some issues, so take those into account.  If you go with 32, will that be stupidly expensive and cause buyer's remorse??

What's really your best play here?  All things considered?

Go buy an Apple refurb mac mini, try it out for 14 days or so, then return it. After that make your purchase decision.

Or spin up a macOS in a VM and measure the amount of disk swapping that it does. Here you can control how much RAM you give to the VM to experiment.
