Budget (including currency): 6000€

Country: Portugal

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Video Editing in DaVinci Resolve and Adobe After Effects. Photo and design work in Lightroom, Photoshop. Apex Legends, Cyberpunk 2077, etc.

Other details  My current system has an Intel i9-9900; Motherboard ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming, 4x16 GB of DDR4 RAM 2666; Asus RXT 2070 8GB SUPER. 2 different NVME, one with 1TB for system files and work in progress, another with 2TB for work in progress; 3 different HDD with: 6TB, 8TB and 16TB for long-term storage (and yes, i still have a NAS for even more storage, video is a pain...) I run two 2K monitors 27'' side by side. They're from Dell, optimized for creative work with color correction and all that.

Why I'm considering upgrading
I've been running my system for 5 years now. Seeing the new 5090 — and it's optimization for 422 video decoding — has me wondering what can be. Specially in video, I feel like I need an upgrade to have a smooth editing. As soon as I start adding any meaningful effects, there's goes instant playback... my current motherboard only has one USB-C, and it's very annoying. You can say I can use a dock, but if I start to connect too much stuff the USB starts to disconnect and reconnect... so, more USB-C Ports are very welcomed. The fan on my RTX is very noisy. I have been told it's hard to find a replacement. The PC is also in some kind of bios trouble, cause in the past 3 months, sometimes instead of booting up normally it will turn on and off immediately. If I'm persistent, eventually it will boot into the bios asking to make the changes and save. I just exit and it starts normally. By now, I just let the PC run and don't turn it off often to avoid it... I'm also looking into 4k monitors, but since my priority is image quality, probably the best I will have is 70 fps. But if there are good color corrected monitors with better speeds, I'm listening.

Dream big
The purpose of this post is to better understand what's the market state and see what's the best PC build for my needs. I intend to keep it for the next 5 to 7 years. Being my tool of work and main source of income, I'm ready to spend whatever it needs to be the best tool, but I'll probably need to save for it and set some goals for 2025.

Give me your best options! Let's see how bankrupt you'll try to make me.

Ideally you want a ATX 3.1 power supply but I don't see any available in Portugal at this time yet they are available in Spain.

@a350xwb-pc Thank you for your list! I noticed you suggested two sticks of 48 GB RAM. I thought getting smaller but more was better? Is that no longer the case or was I always wrong? The case looks good. But I think it only fits 2 HDD 3.5'' drives. I'm looking for 3. A glass panel would be nice too. Gotta see the machinery!

@Why_Me It's insane you tried to find the components in Portugal. Unfortunately if it's not something widely popular I end up on Amazon and get it from Spain or other places in Europe. Any reason to suggest the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K over the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D?

For productivity Intel has the upper hand and the extra cores and clock speeds are gonna make a difference.

The 9800x3d is the best GAMING chip and all rounder but you want a good productivity chip

Simply move existing storage.

If a good ATX 31 compliant PSU becomes a available, it would be preferred.

The 9950X provides all around excellent performance. It may not lead all benchmarks, but is generally near the top in productivity, content creation, and gaming.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
