Bought a MSI gaming x rx 580 8gb to replace my asus arez rx 560 4gb so i could play some shooters (cs2, pubg, warzone, fortnite etc) on 1600x900p resolution (rx 580 should destroy that) but i get same or even lower fps and im pissed any way to fix this?

i have tried; ddu, reinstalling the games, overclocking, underclocking, reflashing the vbios, changing the paste and cleaning the gpu.

my specs:

i7-4770

400w fsp hexa+ power supply

512gb ssd
16gb ram 1600mtz

hp elite desk 800g1 motherboard

case-ms element m300 (3 intake, 1 exhaust)

what is the gpu and cpu usage in the games? if the cpu is at 100% and gpu like less then 90% then cpu bottle neck.

im guessing the cpu is running stock speeds?

Can the 580 do higher graphics settings than 560 but still same fps? Or resolution?

cpu is at 90-100%, gpu is jumping around its 14% then 50% sometimes 100%, cpu is running at turbo freq. so 3.9 Ghz.

in the warzone the rx 560 on preformance settings had 45-50 fps, rx 580 on the same settings had 27-30, same res also.

how are the temps doing? you said you tried OCing and stuff, what software did you use?

Did you run DDU to eradicate old drivers before installing new ones?

Also the CPU is a bit of a weak one, yet probably not the culprit.

yeah i did, but only after i put in my new gpu, should i remove my gpu and do it again?

any other things i sould try? anything?

MSI Afterburner, change this (power limit) to like 90-80-70% and see what it does to your fps:

The temp limit can be left default.

im going to do that now, i reinstalled windows too just in case.

re-installing Windows is even better than using DDU, so no need to do that again

it is most likely due to your memory speed and cpu generation.  since it's older than your old GPU i would have upgraded  that first.

It still doesn't make sense how 20 numbers higher card gets less fps, there's a reason I want them to try lower power draw setting, if you look at specs you'll see why.

i had to upgrade system from DDR3 to 4, to get benefit of GTX 980 back in the day.. was about same FPS with my DDR3 system on GTX 580 compared to the 980, well i had 2 of each so SLI.. faster ram new cpu new board made the difference.

yes, but that doesn't explain lower fps on "more powerful" GPU, same fps would make sense

what about Adrenaline?

Also that GPU usage is very weird, jumpy, unless you're doing things like loading website and then done, then it makes sense.

i did it in adrenaline, set it to 50% and about the gpu usage, i was just playing the game and i closed it right before i took that screenshot.

does lowering the power limit % to like 80% or below help?

we're not looking at more fps with this, just consistent fps that can be similar to 560 but of course with lower power, this can tell if it might be PSU thing,

it honestly might be the PSU, the power limit is so the card draws less and lets the PSU be more consistent, if it's not good at using it's entire intended power level, which the 580 can pull
