My galaxy A33 now won't transfer files over USB, yes I checked that the default usb option is transfering files like 10 fking times, restarted both the phone and the PC, and yet it still won't even give me the pop up to allow access to the phone's files

edit: of course right after posting it fucking starts working, all I did was try a different cable, and not it works with both cables, the actual fuck?

usually turning on off bt or restarting the pc fixes it tho, no big deal, although it wasn't an issue 5-10 years ago, that's progress for ya!

Do you see the phone in explorer as a drive? Does it show up if you unplug and plug back in? Make sure the phone is unlocked while doing that.

And for some reason on an older S9+ i had the issue it wouldn't work on USB 3.0, but worked on USB 2.0. So try different ports.

Samsung puts their stupid OS on top of Android... what could possibly go wrong....

Yeah that's exactly what wasn't happening

If changing the cable helped, then yeah it's the old cable at fault

Doesn't really make sense if the old cable worked just fine after that

Not saying it makes sense... but Samsung phones just suck. I've had 4 Samsung and file transfer via USB is slow and finicky. I even had the case, that it worked while going through a USB hub (built in my monitor), but not with the same cable directly to the same USB port. There is no logical explanation. Also USB 2 ports seem to work better, but it so spotty and finicky, I'm not sure i could really see a pattern. As a Samsung owner, you just learn that things only work sometimes.

You have to find a combination of cable, port and whatever that works.

(FWIW, my Pixel 6Pro has no problems with the very same computer/cables)

Alternatively you also can look into network access from PC to your phone. Then you avoid cables all together. it has been a long time (S9+), but there was a tool to access the pictures via network (but not videos for some reason).

Network access removes some metadata from my experience, and I don't want that

i never looked for meta-data, so I don't know. But that makes no sense. If I move a file via USB, or via network, it should be the same file. Could be a PDF, picture, video, Excel file...

Unless you use a software that processes the file in some way.
