SOLVED - Case Fans Not Spinning - RGB Working

SOLUTION

You are gonna love this. My issue was that the fans motor was accidentally turned off by the wireless remote controller used to RGB.

For others experiencing similar issues, try the follow trouble shooting steps:

  • Ensuring all fans are connected to the hub
  • Ensuring the hub is connected to the PSU
  • Checking BIOS for any Fan Control settings
  • Downloading HWMonitor to see if fans are recognised (if they are connected to your board)
  • Spinning the fans manually to try and get them to jump start
  • Ensuring BIOS is up to date
  • Ensuring there is no debris/build up preventing the motors from operating
  • Ensuring you have adequate power supply, especially if you’ve recently upgraded something significant

Howdy!

Got an issue here. But first some context; I got a prebuilt PC and upgraded its components over time (rookie error but whatever). Since I upgraded my CPU from an Athlon 3000 to a Ryzen 7 5700 and my RAM from 16GB to 64GB, I noticed my Case Fans are no longer spinning although my RGB still works. This is NOT to say this caused the issue, as I'm not sure at which point they initially stopped working, I just thought that may be some important information.

Troubleshooting Steps Attempted:

  • Ensuring all fans are connected to the hub
  • Ensuring the hub is connected to the PSU
  • Checking BIOS for any Fan Control settings (nothing significant found, the only thing I had changed before was my DRAM Overclocking to let my sticks work at their full speed)
  • Downloading HWMonitor, Case Fans not detected (not surprising, as the fans are not connected to the motherboard, just the hub to the PSU. Additionally there is no place for them to be connected to the MOBO, they have never been plugged in and used to work)
  • Spinning the fans manually to try and get them to jump start
  • Ensuring BIOS is up to date
  • Ensuring there is no debris/build up preventing the motors from operating

Build Specifications:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
  • Corsair Vengeance 64GB DDR4 3600 MT/S
  • RTX 2060 6B
  • 1TB SSD
  • STGSIVIR B450DA1 Motherboard
  • PSU: No idea and I can't access it; it has an external sticker for a 240 VAC Input but beyond that, stumped.

Idle Temperatures:

  • CPU; 70 Celsius / 158F @ 8% load
  • GPU; 55 Celsius / 131F @ 20% load

The PC is less than a week old so this issue has come out of nowhere. My leading theory is that my PSU (whatever it is) isn't good enough post CPU upgrade and that's causing it somehow. If useful, here is the link to the original purchase. Additionally, I have not noticed any thermal throttling, I'm primarily concerned for the longevity of my components (and frankly the possibility my PC is a fire hazard. Completely serious). I totally appreciate getting a prebuild from Amazon was not the smartest move in the first place, but at the end of the day, I've identified an issue with a build that otherwise exceeds everything I want/need it to do and would greatly appreciate some help from the LTT Community!

Many Thanks!

Sounds like a bad fan hub. Try plugging the fans directly into the motherboard, if it works the fan hub is likely broken.

Failure is part of success. I may make mistakes, that's how we all learn.

Here's the kicker! There's actually nowhere on my motherboard for me to plug the fans into directly!

I obviously have my CPU Cooler on the CPU Fan slot, but none of the other slots (including my singular sys_fan) take the cable the fans have.

What fans do you have? Can you take a picture of this fan connector? Most fans are 4 pin which can be plugged in directly to the motherboard.

Unfortunately my case fans are stock with the prebuild and appear unbranded. But I’ve sent some photos here anyways!

That last image is a picture of the cable from the fan(s) that goes into the hub; there’s no where for me to plug it in let alone 4 of them 😕
