Budget (including currency): 1500$

Country: United States

So I'm trying to decide on whether to upgrade my old rig or build a whole new computer and I have no idea what my computer would realistically sell for. I built my PC during the start of Covid in 2020 and used it for almost exclusively gaming, and I never did any crazy demanding games, mostly minecraft, valorant, and terraria. My current specs are as follows:

CPU - Ryzen 5 3600 - New: 94$

CPU Cooler - Vetroo v5 - New: 25$

RAM - G. Skill Ripjaws 2x8 3600 MHZ - New: 36$

GPU - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8Gb Windforce - New: 300$ (Not sure why its so much)

Motherboard - ASRock Phantom Gaming 4 B550 - New: 128$

Storage - Kingston NV2 1TB M.2 - New: 60$

Case - Phanteks Eclipse P360a - New: ~90$

PSU - I think EVGA 650 W 80+ Bronze rated - New: 90$

Total NEW: $823

I know it won't sell for probably 60% even of the original new price, so I was just curious what a good price would be for me to sell this at, OR if I should stick with AM4 and upgrade the current build (I would put in a new GPU, ram, and CPU) instead of upgrading to AM5 with a entire new build. Any help is appreciated thanks

If you don't play any super demanding games, a 5800X3D (still on AM4) would last you for many, many years. After the new 50 series and AMD GPUs release, you could get a current gen GPU, like a 4060 Ti for cheaper. According to Techpowerup, a 4060 Ti is equal to a 2080 Ti at 1080p, and just 8-10% slower than that at 4K.

First Computer: 3440x1440 @75Hz ROG STRIX 1080 Ti Core i5 8600K @ 1.415V @ 5.08 GHz Corsair Spec 02 EVGA CLC 280mm

Forget what it cost new during COVID. What you have may sell for $200-$300. All the hardware is what people upgrade from and not to.

The good news is, a 3D CPU, 32GB RAM and new GPU could make that quite a bit faster for much less $ than new platform. It sounds like you are not playing extremely new and high resolution games.

Appraisal from new price doesn't work for a high depreciation product like tech and cars.
