Website to NAS/home server Safely

Go to solution Solved by Electronics Wizardy,

If your working with remote family I'd be really tempted to get them to use iCloud, Google Drive or other large cloud provider. It typically has better apps, and your not on the line if there are issues or dataloss.

Something like nextcloud does this pretty well though, and can be installed pretty easily on most NAS systems.

Hi everyone,

First off I am an amateur. I am really good with hardware but I do not have much experience with software.

I am wanting to build a website that will allow very remote family to have access to my NAS/home server. I just bought Hexos and will be updating my entire system to that in the next couple months. I am worried about opening a port to allow remote access to the entire server as it is my Plex and PC back ups. I already have a couple domains for a website. I would like to have a password per user that I can give a portion of my server to. I believe a website would be the best option as my family is not tech savvy and if I try to explain more than "Go to this website, Log in, and copy over your photos" it will not go well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, NextCloud is the self-hosted equivalent of Google Drive. It's pretty good from a usability standpoint.
