This is mainly a concern when buying used, but can also apply if you get it from a reseller, like a local deal. The topic pertains to the US, in particular - many (not all) other countries consider warranty by the shop, and we can’t be sure that the same terms would apply outside the US, anyway.

start

If the Ryzen CPU or RTX GPU was bought directly from AMD, Nvidia, then there is no official warranty on CPU or GPU. I don’t know about “professional” parts, but consumer parts for sure.

If the Ryzen CPU was bought from Aliexpress, it’s 99% considered an OEM, that is, a tray CPU. Seller handles warranty. No warranty through AMD.

if you buy an Intel tray CPU, I’m not sure what the *official* policy is.

What if xthomas buys a CPU from amazon and gifts it to his friend, thesunisadeadlylazer, using the amazon gift method of payment? No idea, but it would probably be confusing to whoever was working the helpdesk that day and I’d assume it’d require a lot of fighting.

GPU directly from a company: The Intel GPU does not carry transferable warranty, just like Nvidia. Didn’t look up AMD policy

sapphire GPU

msi GPU i believe has transferable warranty in us

asrock gpu i believe has transferable warranty. Note that the Amazon store AsRock USA is **not** listed on their website as official reseller. On the subreddit is all “rawr this is not the real store” and then you see comments like “ asrock said it is real and they’ll update the website” and then crickets so who knows the truth. if it is real, then asrock has been denying people warranty for years using “but its not listed on our website” excuse

asus gpu i believe is transferable

onix gpu

pny gpu

evga (defunct) gpu used to have transferable warranty, i think they changed it before they closed

If its an extended warranty pretty sure that is only for original buyer

No idea about motherboard. It’s the one item i’m extra scared of buying used because I can’t solder to save my life.  Warranty would go a LONG way to me considering used

Probably be interesting to check which prebuilts and SIs have transferable warrantys as well

It's not really a per part class situation, but a per part class, per vendor situation. One company might offer it, another won't.  I imagine it will also change on the year of the part, as they might discontinue that form of warranty. Way too much to go into for a broad post like that, it'd be more of a passion project to have a spreadsheet that detailed the warranties like that.
