Bad psu leading to computer not working?

Go to solution Solved by bvym,

Yea I figured out the whine was from the optical drive area and it turned out my ram was properly installed 💀 my bad. Windows still doesn’t boot tho. Like it boots into windows but after I put my password it black screens with no cursor nothing. I tried searching up the issue but couldn’t find anything so I asked chatgpt and have been trying what it said but nothing worked so far. I’m currently trying to restore the system using the windows restore feature back to January 8th and it’s taking some time. I’ll keep you updated as if it works or not but thank you for your advice even though I was just stupid and didn’t actually need it lol!

PSU just sends power -or not- to the board that manages and distribute them

So your symptoms are definitely not PSU related, if the PSU sends no/bad power the PC just shuts off

Are you sure the coil whine is from the PSU ? Even then it's not an issue per se, just electrical vibrations

Rather looks like a SSD or Windows issue, then you may have broken things with you rescue attempt...

Get some paste, dismount and reinstall cooler, SSD, RAM ,GPU, carefully

Also reset CMOS

I’ve been using a prebuilt acer computer with an i3 10th gen and no gpu. Amazon listing: 2021 Acer Aspire XC-895 Desktop,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09NCCWZKC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Two days ago when I was using this computer it was very slow and wouldn’t run Val without lagging which it could fine before this. The next day when I go to turn on my computer it takes years to load into windows and then another 5 minutes to process my password before just black screening again. I searched up why this could be happening and so I switched the ram slot and tried turning on the computer again. However it was a tight fit and since I’m pretty slow I took off the cpu cooler to do this forgetting that it has thermal paste on it and that I have no thermal paste on me. I was careful to make sure that I didn’t change the position of the cooler or thermal paste and after switching the ram slot out the cooler back on. (It’s just a stock cpu cooler). Upon turning it on I started hearing a high pitched noice and got no output no matter how long I waited. I tested the hdmi cord and monitor with my MacBook and they work fine. I searched up potential reasons for the noice and found the answer to be psu coil whine which is very possible because I’m hearing it from that area (although it could be from the cpu if that’s even possible). Is my psu the reason why my computer won’t work and was working Incredibky slow the day before? Or is it something else. Please let me know if you want any more info. Thanks yall!

Ok

If you can post and manage BIOS and then crashes on booting Windows you'd better fully reinstall windows
