Budget (including currency): US$ 600 - 700 for MB-RAM-CPU+Cooler (Will upgrade GPU at later date either preowned or new and add VR goggles within a year after)

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I do not have the latest and greatest however I do want or have - RDR2 - ONCE HUMAN - Multiple Star Wars titles- Skyrim - Horizon Zero Dawn - Would like to run VR titles in future.

Other details: High 1080P gaming at 75-100hz refresh / Current parts - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CpwdqH / Will not need any peripherals and old parts will go to build my mother's upgraded PC. The GPU will go to my sons new R5 7600x build once replaced in this one. I have not been keeping up to well with the latest and greatest which is why I am requesting your advice. I have a Micro Center here in Houston that I prefer to source my parts from and am looking to stick with one of their AMD bundles. If not a bundle then some recommended pieces I can put on alert or watch for sales and open box's. Basically I want to get a good CPU that will run VR later and last at least as long as this 2600 has. The replacement GPU will come a bit later and I do want one capable for at least a couple years of gaming and VR. Also if the 5700XT is not good for my son's build I would happily accept some budget options for it as well. Thank you!

have you got a PSU that can handle the new more powerful GPU?

I may need to upgrade that as well. I will look at it later and see what I have. I take it I should go big and stick with this 7 rather than the 5 X3D? Also what kind of cpu cooler, air or AIO?

Only thing microcenter doesn't have, is fast RAM in their bundles https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bqFR4p

Though that only would matter if you're getting like 7700/9700, the x3D CPUs have the 3D cache advantage

Both work, especially on 7800x3D/9800x3D

something like this can be enough for these beasts: (assuming case can fit these 155-160mm tall coolers)

Good food for thought. So go heavy on the CPU and definitely go X3D if I want to do the bundle and not worry about ram speeds. About where should I be looking for GPU's? Like I said I haven't been keeping to close an eye on them lately.
