I recently received a new monitor for Christmas (msi 2k, 240hz) and I’ve noticed my pc has started stuttering in game. It doesn’t happen all the time and some games are worse than others. I checked in task manager and it says I have high power usage while I’m in game. I’ve recently been playing fields of Mistria which should be very easy to run as it’s very similar to stardew valley, it also is max 60fps. I really have no idea what the issue is, I’ve tried a few things including reinstalling drivers and such but nothing is working. I think it may be my power supply as it is only a 550w but I’m not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

my current build: ryzen 5 5600g

2 x 8gb ddr4

Fog strix b450 f

eagle oc 3060 12gb

1tb m.2 Samsung 970

500gb Samsung evo ssd

corsair 550w 80plus bronze

Highly unlikely that the PSU is the problem. Your system should be well under 500w even under load. The 5600g is rarely going to break 125w. Your GPU should be peaking well under 200w. Parts like the NVMe SSD should be 5w or less, and all the other on-board devices such as audio, USB and such should be negligible.

Unless you have tons of RGB lights, an array of motorized HDDs, and lots of USB connected devices, there is really no reason your system should use more than what you have.

The first thing I would suggest is to check for the obvious stuff first. Make sure the HDMI or DP cable is connected to the 3060 and not the motherboard directly.

Secondly, (if you are comfortable with it) I would disable your iPGU in Windows Device Manager. This will prevent windows from attempting to use it instead of the 3060.

Thirdly you should ensure that your currently display settings are set to match your display. Windows does a decent job of this out-of-the-box, but sometimes things happen. Under Settings > System > Display > Advanced Display you can set the correct resolution and refresh rate.

Also be sure to enable VRR & FPM. Again, both should be on by default, but that's not always the case.

Hope this helps.
