Some questions about refreshing rates setting for dual monitors and factory-overclocking.

The high idle power was fixed a while back. But note multi monitor setups and higher Hz takes more power. Be sure nothing else is running and don't move your mouse while you're viewing power consumption software to see how much it's taking. It will be lower when even that is not shown.

Can try to plug side monitor to iGPU if you can to see.

 

I wouldn't bother OCing a monitor.

I have a LG 27GP850-B and a Gigabyte G27Q. I run them with an AMD 7900 XT.

 

1) The LG one is 165hz by native, while another is 144hz. Both runs at 1440p. When I set 165hz on the LG and 120-144hz on Gigabyte, my GPU's idle TDP shoot up to 80-90W. When I set both 144hz, TDP drops to 30-40. And when I set one 165hz while another 60hz, TDP is 20-30. I read before that some AMD GPU has problems with high idle power consumption with dual monitor setup, so I assume this is the case? Is there a workaround as I want to run both of them at their native refreshing rate? Or it is better if I just run them at 144hz instead?

 

2) My LG one can be factory-overclocked from 165hz to 180hz. I play around with Lossless Scaling app to deal with some 60FPS-locked games, and I think it would be nice to get a base 60FPS for frame gen x3 with 180hz instead of a base 55 FPS with 165hz, though I cannot say if it is worth it. The question is whether this manufacturer-provided overclock feature will seriously damage my monitor or not. It has been running for 2 years without OC and already runs out of warranty.

Okay, I plugged my second screen to my motherboard's display port, and the problem is now fixed! It seems that if you have both monitors plugged to GPU, unless you run the second monitor at 60 Hz or both monitor at the same refresh rates, GPU is forced to work harder to deal with two mismatched refresh rates. With now one is plugged to GPU and another is plugged to motherboard, the idle power consumption of a 165hz and 144hz monitor now drops to 20-30W, a nice drop from 80-90W before.

 

And regarding the Overclock from 165hz to 180hz, I read that an overclocked 180hz will have some frame skipping compared to a native 180hz one. So yeah, not worth it at all.
