G-sync forcing monitor to 60fps when tabbed out of 60fps game

I play 2 games that are capped to 60fps which is usually fine but recently I've been wanting to use G-sync for screen tearing reasons. One of the games works fine with G-sync and I can Alt+tab and leave it in the background with no issues and still use my PC at 165hz. The other game (Honkai: star rail) however seems to keep my monitor at 60fps unless I forcefully alt+enter to window it and then minimize it. Is there any fix for this?
