Sata ports not working on motherboard

Go to solution Solved by howdoudoaspace,

I figured it out! I disabled the Marvell ports in the bios, switched the drives to the remaining 6 ports, and it's working great now!

Hi LTTForums!

I am building a NAS out of my old zombie pc parts and have hit another snag. Only 2 of the sata ports on my motherboard are working.

I am using an EVGA Z97 Classified motherboard, and I know it is the ports themselves because the same drives/cables work in the first two ports. All ports are enabled in the bios but none of them except the first 2 are detecting any drives.

It’s very frustrating because I have an SSD for a boot drive, and multiple HDDs for storage, and at present I can only use one of those HDDs and the SSD at a time.

Please help!

Thanks 🙂

EDIT: I’ve also tried flashing the bios to update it which did not solve the problem

EDIT 2: I've just figured out that the motherboard has 6 Intel Sata ports, and 2 Marvell Sata ports. The 2 Marvell ports are the ones that are working.

Could be that the Intel SATA controller is disabled in some way, or at worst, died.

Or it's a support issue with that controller?

No idea honestly

That's really odd, there should be no reason for them to not run simultaneously
