I am lucky enough to live in a rural area that has just got fiber optic internet. I am able to pull 500mbps on my phone but on my computer I am only getting around 40mbps. This is most likely because my computer doesn’t have a way to connect to the internet besides an Ethernet cable. I am using a tp link extender then running a cable from that Ethernet port to my computer.
So if I got a Wi-Fi card would I be able to get full speed and not have to use that? I don’t know much about them.

Dunno which TP-Link you use, but yea I think the speed cap most likely due to your extender RJ45 port can only handle 10/100Mbps speed.

So either you buy an extender that has gigabit port, or change from using extender to router(with gigabit port).

Or get a wifi card/dongle.

Ah, a wi-fi extender, so basically you're pulling wi-fi and converting that to Ethernet.  Yeah.

It depends on the distance but I haven't had good performance with those, it was great for what I wanted to do with it, but it picked up a very weak signal and later on, the antenna seemed to start having issues.  I would be able to see networks not even my phone has ever picked up, giving those a stronger signal then the one in range, and I usually only got maybe 5 mb/s when the wind was just right.

A directional antenna (not omni) seems like it would be the way to go for a more concentrated signal strength, all pointing in the exact direction and narrow signal radius to the router.  I think this would help most wireless equipment in general but omni-directional is just what people use since generall "it works fine" for basically everyone, but a directional antenna would allow higher performance.

About 15 dBi is a decent starting place for a directional antenna, approximately 30 degrees of radius, the higher dBi rating, the tighter the signal, theoretically higher the possible performance, and definitely, higher signal range, both transmission and reception.

Windows 11 will just force business to "recycle" "obscolete" hardware.  Microsoft definitely isn't bothered by this at all, and seems to want hardware produced just a few years ago to be considered obsolete.  They have also not shown any interest nor has any other company in a similar financial position, to help increase tech recycling whatsoever.  Windows 12 might be cloud-based and be a monthly or yearly fee.

Dark Reader addon for webpages.  Pick any color you want for both background and text (background and foreground page elements).  Enable the preview mode on desktop for Firefox and Chrome addon, by clicking the dark reader addon settings, Choose dev tools amd click preview mode.

NoScript or EFF's privacy badger addons can block many scripts and websites that would load and track you, possibly halving page load time!

F-droid is a place to install open-source software for android, Antennapod, RethinkDNS, Fennec which is Firefox with about:config, lots of performance and other changes available, mozilla KB has a huge database of what most of the settings do.  Most software in the repository only requires Android 5 and 6!

I recommend firewall apps (blocks apps) and dns filters (redirect all dns requests on android, to your choice of dns, even if overridden).  RethinkDNS is my pick and I set it to use pi-hole, installed inside Ubuntu/Debian, which is inside Virtualbox, until I go to a website, nothing at all connects to any other server.  I also use NextDNS.io to do the same when away from home wi-fi or even cellular!  I can even tether from cellular to any device sharing via wi-fi, and block anything with dns set to NextDNS, regardless if the device allows changing dns.  This style of network filtration is being overridden by software updates on some devices, forcing a backup dns provuder, such as google dns, when built in dns requests are not connecting.  Without a complete firewall setup, dns redirection itself is no longer always effective.

What kind of wifi card should I look to get? I have never really looked into them.

Never bought it myself as well but, AX210 should be more than fine.

Example:

Or, buy an Intel AX210 card, then combine with a PCIE to E key adapter

example:
