Hello Everyone!

I am making the switch to full time gaming on my PC and leaving my PS5 behind.  Previously I only used my PC for MMO games (FFXIV).  As such, I have been a little dissatisfied with the performance of my existing setup in simulation games such as Cities Skylines 2 and Flight Simulator 2024 (Yes I know a lot of the bugs are server side) as well as some light choppiness in COD: BO2.  I am looking for opinions on what I should upgrade for better performance in these games.

I am also wanting to upgrade to a higher tier GPU and I am looking at obtaining either a 5070 TI or 5080 in the near future.  I currently play through a Sony TV and have been thinking about switching from 1080p to 4k gaming, the display is only rated for 60hz.

I understand that sim games are CPU heavy as well - but I think AMD has moved on to a new socket since I built my PC - would a CPU upgrade to a newer tier required a new MOBO and RAM?  Or is it better to get something thats higher end for the AM4 socket as opposed to an overhaul?  General thoughts welcome.

Budget (including currency): N/A

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Flight Simulator 2024, Cities Skylines 2, COD: BO2, Farming Simulator, General Gaming.

i mean MSFS24 itself is brutal for framerates. All of these but COD is CPU and cache bottlenecked practically so maxxing out the platform on that regard is the way to go.

sure you could upgrade the cpu, but thing is cod will still be "choppy" and msf still "buggy"... just slightly less so... imo not worth it.

problem here is optimization and "throwing more power at it" doesn't really always help with that.

its a pretty decent midrange system still, again imo its not really worth it as the gains will be minimal.

its like upgrading a 2024 chevy to a 2025 chevy... is that really a worthwhile investment?

It seems like the general consensus is a CPU upgrade.  5700X3D seems to be the way to go.  5800X3D is twice the price, not sure if it’s worth it.
