I've been waiting for GTA6 and even used that as one of my reasons to build a new PC, old one was 5 years old.  But today I found out that GTA6 won't be on PC until late 2026

The thought has crossed my mind more and more the past several months to get a console again.  I haven't actually console gamed since the PS2 so I'm out of the loop.  Owned an Xbox 360 and one but never used them, they turned into glorified media boxes.

I'll be playing on a 42" 4k Sony 4k Oled with HDR at my desk.

What do I need to know about picking out a console sometime this year?  Price isn't the end all and be all, but don't want to spend more than I have to since I'm a PC gamer.  I'm leaning towards the PS5 for the exclusives but don't have to go that route.  The only console gamer I know is my buddy's kid who is 8, so the social aspect doesn't come into play for me.  When is the PS6 launching? Or a new Xbox? or anything I should be aware of like refreshes ect.  Is there a better time of the year to get deals?  Are Tariff's going to be a thing for these as well?

Keep in mind that as it won't be til later this year that we have no clue how it will run on the current consoles (right now the PlayStation 5 (digital and physical versions), Xbox Series S (digital only) and the Xbox Series X (physical only, don't get the digital only it's a waste of money))

If you want a chance to play at 4K avoid the Xbox Series S cause it's 1440P, but if you only want a cheap but still powerful console to play GTA 6 and that's it. Then consider that. It's the smallest.

Another thing that could be a consideration is the size. The PlayStation 5 is massive, the Xbox Series is is a bit smaller but wider, and the Series S is very small (this picture doesn't include their length)

Last thing I'll say, keep in mind we have no clue how big GTA 6 will be

Thank you for that information.  Desk space is not a concern for me, it can just go behind a monitor.

I played GTA V on a PS3 when it came out. It was marvelous. PS3 was a capable machine, and the effort the GTA V devs put into optimizing the game was flawless. Maybe nostalgia is hitting me, but the experience I've got was kinda like that. I was just as shocked when I played The Last of Us on that machine.

Therefore, it's not unreasonable to think that the current PS5 (non pro) will handle the game very well. Rockstar tends to take their sweet time to optimize games, except for the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition recently.

To OP, I think you can get a non-pro PS5 and be done with it. I'm confident that GTA VI will run well on it. Rockstar is not CD Projekt Red.

ps3 was al some  and gta was also al some. but now days your going to need detail to sell a game as thats what type of game it is. the gta 5 has vary hi standers and yes they did update the  graphics over time. so they should take there time imo and it working.

last of us also was good from what people said i think it started the interacted video type of games or made them re popular. just not my type of game. i could be wrong about that i have not played it.

ps3 has such a good ui too and all the settings to....but its was costly for lot of people...but also justifiable because blue ray player on its own was was like $400 at the time.

just sucked because we didn't get the backwards compatibility...

it got hacked alot thow...

i got one just for lbp only game i own for it. friends were sapos to come play with me but drinking was better... but anyway.

Yes. But um... I was talking about the performance of the PS3, in relation to what I think would be the performance of the PS5 when GTA VI came out. I wasn't talking about the actual game.
